Spain Women 2-0 Colombia Women (6/1 with BetUK)

After conceding to Japan Women in their opening game, Spain Women have kept a clean sheet in their past two matches.

Alexia Putellas to score anytime (5/2 with Bet365)

Now back as a starter in Spain Women’s midfield, Alexia Putellas has chipped in with some vital goals. The two-time Ballon d’Or Femenin winner scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Nigeria, before making the 2-0 victory against Brazil safe late on.

Half Time/Full Time: Draw/Spain (3/1 with Paddy Power)

Despite going perfect in the group stage, Spain Women were made to wait for their wins. All three of their matches were level at half time, before Spain Women did the business in the second half.

Spain Women and Colombia Women face off at 4pm on Saturday 3rd August with the game played at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon.

History will be made after this match, with neither nation having previously reached the semi-finals of the Olympics. For Spain, the hope will be that the firsts carry all the way to the gold medal, which would complete their domination of world football. La Roja are reigning world champions, having beaten England Women in the World Cup final last year, and sit top of the rankings. This is actually their first showing at the Olympics, which is testament to their rise in recent years. And they went perfect in the group stage. In their first game, Spain Women came from behind to beat Japan Women 2-1, in a game many expected would decide the group. Qualification to the quarter-finals was secured with a 1-0 win over Nigeria, before a 2-0 win against Brazil made the group perfect.

Colombia Women are in their third Olympics and have made it past the group stage for the first time. They lost all three matches without scoring at London 2012, before making one point and two goals from three games in Rio 2016. Always the bridesmaids in the Copa America Femenina, this would be a chance for Colombia Women to make a big statement. They sealed their spot in the quarter-finals as the best third-placed team. After losing 3-2 to France Women in their opening game, Colombia Women beat New Zealand Women 2-0 to top their group. A 1-0 defeat to Canada Women in their final game did push Colombia Women down the third but they had the best goal difference of the third-placed teams — who were all level on three points.

Spain Women team news

With qualification already secured going into their final game, Montse Tome made some changes to Spain Women’s XI. But we’ll expect La Roja to go full strength again. Irene Paredes should replace Laia Codina at the heart of the defence alongside Laia Aleixandri, with Ona Batlle and Olga Carmona as the full-backs.

Salma Paralluelo will lead the line, with Athenea del Castillo potentially keeping her spot on the flank after a goal against Brazil. Mariona Caldentey will be on the other wing. Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmati and Teresa Abelleira are the expected midfield trio.

Colombia Women team news

Colombia will welcome back Mayra Ramirez after she served a two-match suspension for her red card against France, and still go straight into the starting XI. In Ramirez’s absence, Angelo Marsiglia opted for a strike partnership, but may choose to pull Catalina Usme back into the midfield alongside Daniela Montoya, with Marcela Restrepo pushing out to the flank.

Linda Caicedo will be hoping she can hurt some of her Real Madrid teammates from the left wing.

Spain Women vs Colombia Women head-to-head

This will be the first-ever meeting between Spain Women and Colombia Women.
