Spain vs Serbia prediction, stats, tips & team news

Spain’s search to become the first country to successfully defend the Uefa Nations League continues when they host Serbia on Tuesday 15th October.

La Roja have taken four points from their opening two games of the group stage so far, while Serbia have one point.

Spain to win and BTTS No (odds TBC)

Serbia have struggled in competitive matches played outside their home nation of late. They’re winless in their past five competitive matches not played in Serbia, failing to score in three.

Under 2.5 goals (odds TBC)

But Serbia’s matches haven’t exactly been fun to watch for the neutral of late. Since the start of Euro 2024, Serbia’s five matches have seen just five goals scored.

Spain are defending European champions, and they have the form of winners. La Roja are unbeaten in their past 12 games, winning nine including, of course, the Euro 2024 final. In their next game after lifting the trophy, Spain did draw against Serbia, not the most ideal start to their Uefa Nations League campaign.

But Spain did bounce back to beat Switzerland 4-1 in their next game, and they sit in a very good position. Unlike in previous years, the top two teams in a League A group will qualify for the knockout stages, which now start with quarter-finals. So, Spain just need to be the second best team to qualify, though they will still want to finish top.

Serbia will also be hoping to make the most of the new format, in more ways than one. While the top two do qualify for the quarter-finals, and the bottom side are relegated, there is another reason to avoid third. Now, even third has something to do, dropping into the relegation play-offs. All it would require is a bad week against a tough nation and you’re facing relegation.

After opening with the draw against Spain, Serbia then lost their next Uefa Nations League match. Serbia were beaten 2-0 by Denmark in Copenhagen, extending their poor record away from home.

Spain host Serbia at the Estadio Nuevo Arcangel in Cordoba on Tuesday 15th October at 7:45pm (UK time).

Spain team news

Spain will still be without Dani Olmo through injury, while Rodri is out for the rest of the season. Alvaro Morata should be back in the squad after missing the September international break through suspension.

Serbia team news

There is still no Dusan Vlahovic or Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for Serbia, who both missed the September international break. Milinkovic-Savic missed the two Uefa Nations League fixtures through injury but has been playing for Al-Hilal. Vlahovic withdrew from the Serbia squad and hasn’t been recalled.

Spain vs Serbia head-to-head

This will be just the second meeting between Spain and Serbia. Spain won the first game, a friendly in the build up to Euro 2012, before last month’s draw.
