Spain hoping to build on winning run
It’s a European Championships year and Spain will be hoping to continue what has been a good run for them. La Roja won eight of their 10 games across all competitions in 2023, recovering from their shock defeat to Scotland in March. In June, they beat Italy and Croatia to win the Uefa Nations League, the latter a penalty shootout victory.
Technically a draw, Spain did build on the Uefa Nations League final glory, winning each of their past six matches. It saw them finish top of their qualifying group for Euro 2024, though that rewarded them with a tough draw. They’ll face Croatia, Italy and Albania at this summer’s tournament, so need to keep the momentum up. It’s a pair of South American sides in this international break, with Spain also taking on Brazil in Madrid after facing Colombia in London.
Colombia, meanwhile, have Copa America to build for this summer, facing Paraguay, Brazil and one of Honduras or Costa Rica in their group. So this is a chance for them to see what their squad is about ahead of the tournament. And they’re on a longer unbeaten run than Spain.
It’s now 19 games without defeat to Colombia since their 1-0 loss to Argentina in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup — which they missed. Colombia have won 14 of those games including each of their past four, starting with a 2-1 win over Brazil in 2026 World Cup qualifying.
Spain vs Colombia match tip
Time of first goal 1-10 minutes @ 7/2
In the November international break, Spain closed out 2023 with two 3-1 wins, beating Cyprus and Georgia. In both matches, Spain asserted their dominance early on, taking the lead inside the opening 10 minutes. Against Cyprus it was Lamine Yamal scoring in the fifth minute, with Robin Le Normand opened the scoring in the fourth minute against Georgia — who equalised in the 10th minute.
Spain vs Colombia odds
Although Colombia have the longer unbeaten run, Spain are understandably favourites for this game. Many will be backing La Roja purely out of knowledge, perhaps unaware of the run Colombia are on. There is also the fact that Spain are ranked higher in the world than Colombia, sitting eighth to the South American’s 14th.
