Sammie Szmodics to score anytime (27/10 with SBK)
Sammie Szmodics has scored in four of his past five away league games, for Ipswich and Blackburn, netting six goals.
Ipswich to keep a clean sheet (7/2 with SBK)
Southampton have only scored one goal in the league this season. They’ve also failed to score in two of their past three matches against Ipswich.
How both teams go into Southampton vs Ipswich
This is the first meeting between two of the newly-promoted sides in the Premier League this season. And they both would have hoped to be in better positions. Hosts Southampton went into the September international break still without a point, in a rough start for Russell Martin in the top flight, and it remains that way heading into this latest matchday.
Saints opened the new campaign with a trip to face Newcastle but narrowly lost 1-0, in a game where their opponents went down to 10 men. There was another 1-0 defeat in the next game, this time to Nottingham Forest, before Brentford beat Southampton 3-1 ahead of the international break and they lost 3-0 against Man Utd afterwards.
It isn’t going much better for Ipswich. On their long-awaited return to the Premier League, they couldn’t have got a tougher start. The Tractor Boys hosted Liverpool at Portman Road in their league opener, losing 2-0.
Then, Ipswich travelled to the Etihad to face Manchester City and came away with a 4-1 defeat having taken a shock lead. But then there was a first point of the season, with a 1-1 draw against Fulham before the break, and then another in a goalless draw at Brighton.
Southampton team news
Gavin Bazunu remains a long-term absentee, but Ross Stewart and Kamaldeen Sulemana could both be available by the time this game comes around.
Ipswich team news
Wes Burns could be back for Ipswich in time for this game. However, the Tractors will still be missing a few players. Harry Clarke, George Hirst, Nathan Broadhead and Janoi Donacien are all expected to sit out through injury.
Southampton vs Ipswich head-to-head
Ipswich did the league double over Southampton in the Championship last season, for the first time since 2000/01. The pair of wins ended a run of eight games without victory for Ipswich over Southampton. The Tractor Boys haven’t won three in a row against Southampton since 1983.
