Southampton vs Everton prediction, stats, tips and team news: Will Everton continue unbeaten run?

Southampton vs Everton prediction, stats, tips and team news

Everton will look to continue their turnaround in form when they travel to Southampton in the Premier League

Southampton 0-1 Everton (10/1 with BetMGM)

Southampton have lost seven of their first eight Premier League games so far this season, while Everton are unbeaten in their last five, keeping a clean sheet in two of their last three games. The Toffees form has seen them pull clear of the sides in the relegation zone and if they can continue to pick up points they should be able to defy their sceptics who predicted a relegation battle for the side.

Dwight McNeil to score or assist (11/10 with BetMGM)

Dwight McNeil is first among Everton players this season for Premier League goals and assists (3 each). The wide man has been in great form to start the season and has been the main man for his side in the final third. There are some small concerns about his injury status ahead of the weekend but, if he’s on the pitch, he’s a great bet to find the net or supply the goal to win his side the match.

How both teams go into Southampton vs Everton

We’re only nine games into the new season but already, things are getting pretty desperate for Southampton. The South Coast side have lost eight of their first nine Premier League matches and sit at the foot of the table. If they’re to avoid an immediate return to the Championship, Southampton must start picking up some wins, especially at home — where they threw away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Leicester last time out.

Everton are familiar with throwing away 2-0 leads this season having done so back-to-back against Bournemouth and Aston Villa earlier this campaign. However, that feels like ancient history now, with wins over Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town and draws with Leicester and Newcastle combining for a five-game unbeaten run. The Toffees are still 16th, but have now opened up a five-point gap on the relegation zone, with Sean Dyche seemingly leading them back into the upper reaches of the bottom half.

Southampton team news

Ryan Fraser is suspended for Southampton’s trip to Manchester City but will be able to return for this match. Ross Stewart, Will Smallbone and Gavin Bazunu are all out with Flynn Downes rated at 50/50.

Everton team news

Everton will be without Jarrad Branthwaite, Tim Iroegunam, Jesper Lindstrom and James Garner back for this match, while Armando Broja is also sidelined. There are small doubts over Dwight McNeil and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Southampton vs Everton head-to-head

These two sides have already met this season, with Southampton winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the EFL Cup third round at Goodison Park. In league play, each side won away during the 2022/23 campaign, when the Saints were relegated to the Championship.
