Brentford vs Southampton Premier League prediction: More valuable points on offer

Brentford and Southampton will compete for three crucial points when they face off at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Three Brentford vs Southampton predictions

Brentford have won each of the last three meetings with Southampton by an aggregate score of 8-0, keeping three consecutive clean sheets against the Saints.

Yoane Wissa First Goalscorer (7/1 with Bet365)

Yoane Wissa finished the 2023/24 campaign as Brentford’s top scorer in the Premier League with 12 goals, also scoring more home league goals than any of his teammates.

Over 1.5 Brentford Team Goals (8/11 with BetUK)

The Bees have scored 2+ goals in four of their last five matches against the Saints, including six goals in their last two home games.

How both teams go into Brentford vs Southampton

After two tough games against Crystal Palace and Liverpool to start the season, in which they’ve accumulated three points, Thomas Frank will be hoping for another positive result against Southampton.

The Bees had a rough end to the 2023/24 campaign, winning just three of their final 14 matches. Victories over promoted sides Luton and Sheffield United in that run will give them hope of once again picking up another three points against one of this season’s new boys in Southampton however, especially after the recent meetings between the sides.

The Saints have lost each of their last three matches against Brentford without scoring a single goal, going down 3-0 in both of their last two visits to the Gtech Community Stadium in the Premier League. Russel Martin’s side will be hoping to avoid returning to the Championship at the first time of asking and a win here would make an early statement.

Things haven’t started well as the Saints lost consecutive matches to Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest without scoring.

Brentford host Southampton at 3pm (UK time) on Saturday 31st August at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Brentford latest team news

Ivan Toney completed a shock move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli ahead of the transfer deadline.

On the other hand, Brentford have strengthened their attacking options by signing Gustavo Nunes from Gremio. Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo, who are well-rested, are expected to lead the Bees’ attack on Saturday. Several players, including Igor Thiago, Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey, and Josh Dasilva, are out due to injury.

Additionally, Hákon Valdimarsson’s penalty save in their EFL Cup win over Colchester United won’t be enough to keep Mark Flekken out of Frank’s starting lineup.

Southampton latest team news

Southampton worked hard to finalise a £25m deal for Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale before the transfer window closed. The England international might well be thrown straight into the starting line-up here.

Fellow goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu is sidelined with an Achilles injury and is not expected to return until early 2025. However, Alex McCarthy, who made several saves in the recent loss to Forest, remains a capable option if Ramsdale isn’t ready.

Ross Stewart is still regaining fitness and may not be ready for the upcoming match in London. On a positive note, Kamaldeen Sulemana has fully recovered from an ankle injury and should be available as an alternative attacking option for the Saints.

Brentford vs Southampton head-to-head

The Bees have won three of the four Premier League meetings between these two sides, including each of the last three.
