Northern Ireland’s hopes of reaching a second European Championships are fading and they know there is a lot of work to be done. Although there are six games left to play, Northern Ireland are six points outside the qualifying spots in Group H, only saved from bottom by San Marino. Northern Ireland started their qualifying campaign with a 2-0 away win over San Marino but have fallen to three defeats since. Finland, Denmark and Kazakhstan have taken all three points from Northern Ireland, with two of those defeats coming at home.

Slovenia are just one place above Northern Ireland in the group but their prospects are a lot brighter. With two wins and one draw from their opening four games, Slovenia are just two points outside of the qualifying spots and know a win here could potential lift them into the top two. They started the group with two wins over Kazakhstan and San Marino to top the group but did have a minor shaky patch in June. First, Slovenia lost to Finland and then they drew with Denmark, so momentum will need to be rebuilt.

Slovenia vs Northern Ireland match tip

Half-time correct score: 0-0 @ 7/5 with Midnite

Although they have lost three games, Northern Ireland’s defence hasn’t really been the problem. In fact, they’ve managed to frustrate their opponents for quite a bit of their matches. The two defeats in June saw Northern Ireland hold their opponents to goalless draws in the first half before finally dropping after the break. Against Kazakhstan the winner came as late as the 88th-minute, with Northern Ireland so close to the clean sheet.

Slovenia vs Northern Ireland Bet-Builder tip

Benjamin Sesko to score anytime, Slovenia to keep a clean sheet

One of the players most likely to breach the Northern Ireland net is Benjamin Sesko who has six goals in 21 caps for Slovenia. He also goes into the international break in scoring form, netting twice in a 15-minute cameo for RB Leipzig against Union Berlin. At the other end of the pitch, Northern Ireland have just two goals in their four games, both coming against San Marino.
