Slovakia vs Romania Euro 2024 Prediction: Qualification on the line in firmly poised Group E
Slovakia vs Romania Latest Prediction
No group is as delicately balanced as this one, in which each team has won and lost one game. Slovakia could not follow up its upset of Belgium with another win, as it lost to Ukraine despite taking a first-half lead. Ivan Schranz, who scored the winning goal against Belgium, gave his team a first-half lead five days later, only for Ukraine to score two goals in the second half and win the match.
On the other hand, Romania had an impressive performance on Matchday 1, securing a 3-0 victory over Ukraine. Despite their loss to Belgium, they generated enough opportunities to secure a draw, which would have guaranteed their advancement to the knockout stage.
To qualify for the round of 16 and finish in the top two, Romania needs to avoid a defeat against Slovakia. If they win, Romania will top the group and Belgium does not beat Ukraine. However, if Romania loses and Ukraine avoids a defeat, they will not be able to reach the round of 16.
For Slovakia to advance to the round of 16 and finish in the top two, they need to defeat Romania. A draw will see Slovakia finish third. If Slovakia wins and Ukraine does not beat Belgium, Slovakia will finish first. However, if Slovakia loses and Belgium avoids defeat, Slovakia will be unable to reach the round of 16.
The showdown between Slovakia and Romania takes place on 26th June at the Frankfurt Arena in Frankfurt.
Neither of these teams need to do too much in this game with progress confirmed if they each manage to earn a point, which would represent a good tournament finish no matter who they play in the next round for both teams.
As such, we anticipate both teams sitting back and chances, shots, goals and even corners perhaps coming at a premium in what is likely to be a slow-paced game with neither side willing to risk progress for a shot at finishing higher in the group.
Slovakia had five shots on target during their recent match against Ukraine, which is their highest in a major tournament match. However, all five shots were in the first half. They only managed one shot on target after taking a 1-0 lead and ended up losing 2-1.
In the first two matches of Euro 2024, 57% of Romania’s shots came from outside the box (13 out of 23), the highest proportion among all teams. Additionally, two of their three goals in this tournament were scored from long-range.

Slovakia Latest Team News
Francesco Calzona has kept the same team for both of Slovakia’s games and will likely do the same again. However, the in-form Schranz will miss the next match if he gets booked. As mentioned, Schranz has scored in his two European Championship appearances, making him the oldest player to score in his first two games at the tournament (30 years, 282 days). The last player to score in his first three Euro games was Gareth Bale in 2016 for Wales.
Romania Latest Team News
Romania saw the return of veteran striker Denis Alibec from injury as a substitute against Belgium, and he may be given a starting role. Three Romanian players are on the verge of missing the Round of 16 if they reach it. Nicușor Bancu, Răzvan Marin and Marius Marin will be cautious not to incur the referee’s wrath.
