Serbia vs Switzerland prediction, stats, tips & team news: Best Bets for Nations League clash

Serbia vs Switzerland prediction, stats, tips & team news

Both Serbia and Switzerland will be looking to get up and running in the Uefa Nations League when they face off on Saturday 12th October.

The two sides are winless after two matches of the 2024-25 Uefa Nations League. Serbia have one point, while Switzerland have lost both games so far.

Two Serbia vs Switzerland Predictions

Aleksandar Mitrovic to be fouled 2+ times (13/10 with Paddy Power)

Aleksandar Mitrovic can be a handful for defenders and with the result of this game looking tricky to predict, taking a punt on the Serbian attacker in the ‘fouls won’ market looks a nice angle. The former Fulham and Newcastle man has been fouled at least twice in six of his last nine appearances for Serbia with totals of: 3,2,2,0,4,0,1,3,2.

Breel Embolo Anytime Assist (23/2 with BetMGM)

Breel Embolo may have only recorded two assists last season for Monaco, but he has already matched this total after just four appearances this season. The 27-year-old also turned provider on his most recent international outing against Spain, making three assists in his last five for club and country. Sky Bet go just 5/1 he assists on Saturday, giving plenty of appeal to the 23/2 that is available with BetMGM.

The slight change to the Uefa Nations League means that every position in League A has something on the line. The top two of a group now qualify for the quarter-finals, rather than just top spot reaching the semi-finals. Fourth place seals immediate relegation to League B, while the third-placed side must enter the relegation play-offs.

Group 4 of League A is a tough one, with Denmark and Spain the favourites to take quarter-final qualification. That would leave Serbia and Switzerland to fight to avoid automatic relegation. After two games, Serbia have the slight upper hand, but the two matches between these two sides will of course prove key.

Serbia’s opening point of the group was a good one, holding Spain to a goalless draw in Belgrade in September. However, they were unable to build on that, beaten 2-0 by Denmark in Copenhagen. A goal in each half did the damage for Serbia, who had also underwhelmed at Euro 2024.

Switzerland, meanwhile, are unable to build on their quarter-final run at Euro 2024. The Red Crosses have suffered defeats to both Denmark and Spain so far. The loss to Denmark came late on, with two goals in the final 10 minutes as both Nico Elvedi and Granit Xhaka were sent off. They were then beaten 4-1 by Spain in Geneva despite the European champions playing 70 minutes with 10 men after Robin Le Normand’s red card.

Serbia host Switzerland at Dubocica Stadium in Leskovac on Saturday 12th October at 7:45pm.

Serbia team news

There is still no Dusan Vlahovic or Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for Serbia, who both missed the September international break.

Switzerland team news

Both Elvedi and Xhaka will be available for this game having missed the defeat to Spain through suspension — providing they are called up. Basel captain Dominik Schmid missed the September international break through injury but should be okay to return to the squad.

Serbia vs Switzerland head-to-head

This will be just the third meeting between Serbia and Switzerland. Switzerland won both previous matches, at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
