How to watch Scotland vs Portugal live
Scotland vs Portugal is scheduled for 7:45pm on Tuesday 15th October and will be broadcast live in the UK, though the channel is yet to be confirmed.
How both teams go into Scotland vs Portugal
This game could be make or break for Scotland. Steve Clarke’s men enter the October international break without a point in the Uefa Nations League and staring relegation in the face. There has been a change to the format of the Uefa Nations League, which means the top two sides in a League A group will go through to the knockout stages. The third-placed side will face the relegation play-offs, while the bottom nation will automatically drop to League B.
At the moment, Scotland are that basement nation and could be set for an immediate return to League B. It’s a tough group for Scotland, alongside Portugal, Croatia and Poland, and their two defeats so far have been agonising. Clarke’s men lost to both Portugal and Poland via late goals, the latter coming deep into injury time.
Portugal, meanwhile, will be hoping they can become the first country to win the Uefa Nations League twice. The Selecao das Quinas won the inaugural Uefa Nations League, but haven’t made it to the semi-finals since. Portugal have finished second in their group in each of the past two Uefa Nations League campaigns, finishing behind France and Spain respectively — both eventual winners.
With the top two sides qualifying for the knockout stages, Portugal will feel extra confident about making it out the group this year. Roberto Martinez’s men go into the October fixtures top of their group with two wins from two, beating Scotland and Croatia.
Scotland host Portugal at Hampden Park on Tuesday 15th October at 7:45pm.
Scotland team news
There are four uncapped players in Scotland’s squad for the October fixtures, with Jon McCracken, Nicky Devlin, Liam Lindsay and Andy Irving hoping for their debuts. Zander Clark, Scott McKenna, Josh Doig, Max Johnston, John McGinn, Connor Barron and Tommy Conway have all dropped out from the September squad.
But there are returns for Greg Taylor, James Forrest and Che Adams after injury ruled them out last month.
Portugal team news
Goncalo Ramos is still out injured for Paris Saint-Germain and won’t be called up for the Portugal squad. Danilo Pereira has found game time following his move to Al Ittihad so could be in contention for a recall, as could Joao Cancelo.
Scotland vs Portugal head-to-head
Portugal’s 2-1 win last month extended their unbeaten run against Scotland to seven games. But only three of those came this century, with matches few and far between. Overall, Portugal lead this fixture with nine wins to Scotland’s four, alongside three draws.
