Brighton’s poor preparation
It’s fair to say things aren’t really going well for Brighton at the moment. The Seagulls secured their spot in the last 16 of the Europa League having finished top of their group, and it’s perhaps for the best that they did.
Brighton go into this game now winless in their last three games and with just two wins from their past six across all competitions. During that run, Roberto De Zerbi’s men have only managed to beat Crystal Palace and Sheffield United — though they were 4-1 and 5-0 wins respectively. However, following the 5-0 win over the Blades, Brighton first drew 1-1 with relegation-battling Everton, needing a late goal from Lewis Dunk to secure a point.
Since then, it’s been back-to-back defeats for Brighton. The first saw them knocked out of the FA Cup by Wolves, before they were pulled apart by Fulham in the Premier League at the weekend. Injuries haven’t been kind to Brighton, and it’s been a case of just doing what they can with what they’ve got.
Roma, on the other hand, are unbeaten in their past five games across all competitions, starting to enjoy life under Daniele de Rossi. In the league, Roma have won three in a row and six of their past seven, only falling in a 4-2 defeat to runaway league leaders Inter Milan. That run has seen Roma jump up to fifth, knocking on the door of the Champions League places.
Their other two games have finished level, both coming in the Europa League, though it obviously ended in success for Roma. The Italian side drew the first leg of their knockout round play-off tie against Feyenoord 1-1, with a repeat scoreline in the return fixture. It went all the way to penalties, with goalkeeper Mile Svilar the hero, saving two spot-kicks in the 5-3 shootout win.
Roma vs Brighton match tip
Roma to win and BTTS @ 31/10 by Midnite
It’s hard to look past any result other than a home win here. As well as being unbeaten in their past five games across all competitions, Roma have also lost just one of their last 23 home games in the Europa League. During that run, Roma have won 17 times with five draws. Since the 2-1 defeat to Real Betis in last season’s tournament, Roma have won eight of their last nine home games in the competition.
Roma vs Brighton odds
Brighton are slight favourites to qualify from this tie, but Roma edge the odds to take the first leg. The Italian’s side current unbeaten run will be being taken into consideration, as well as Brighton’s recent struggles.
