Ireland vs Greece is scheduled for 7:45pm (UK time) on Tuesday 10th September and will be shown in the UK on Premier Sports.
How both teams go into Republic of Ireland vs Greece
Ireland remains in League B in the Nations League after finishing 3rd last time around, behind Scotland and Ukraine.
In the 2024/25 season, they have a tough challenge ahead as they are in the same group as England, Finland, and Greece. They lost 2-0 at home to England and have also been defeated by Greece in their last three encounters, including a 2-0 and 2-1 loss in the European Championship qualifiers last year. This time, they are hoping for better performances and aiming for a top-two finish.
Greece, meanwhile, have been promoted to League B after winning five of their six matches in League C last season, topping their group ahead of Kosovo, Northern Ireland and Cyprus. Under the new leadership of Ivan Jovanović, they ran out 3-0 winners over Finland to start their Nations League campaign.
Ireland host Greece at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday 10th September at 7:45pm (UK time).
Ireland team news
Ireland captain Séamus Coleman is expected to miss out after sustaining a foot injury in a collision with Harry Maguire during their 2-0 defeat to England on Saturday.
Coleman’s Everton teammate, Jake O’Brien, might be the one to replace him if head coach Heimir Hallgrímsson continues with a three-at-the-back system, playing as a more traditional central option.
Evan Ferguson made his first appearance for club or country since March, but he may only be a substitute again due to a lack of match fitness.
Up to seven players who started in the loss to Greece last October could feature in this game, but Josh Cullen will not be able to play as the Burnley midfielder is currently sidelined due to injury.
Greece team news
Greece manager Ivan Jovanović, who replaced Gus Poyet, surprised everyone by choosing Fotis Ioannidis over Vangelis Pavlidis to lead his attack over the weekend. Ioannidis’ two-goal performance should see him retain his place up front for Greece.
Anastasios Chatzigiovanis was another surprising inclusion, considering he has barely featured for Eyupspor so far this season. After being substituted at halftime, he could drop to the bench here, with Christos Tzolis and Giannis Konstantelias as the candidates to replace him.
Despite not playing for his club, Odysseas Vlachodimos retained his place in goal ahead of the young Olympiacos stopper Konstantinos Tzolakis in the win over Finland. That clean sheet should see him start again.
The new manager omitted many regulars. There was no place in the squad for Dimitris Kourbelis after his move to Saudi Arabia, and for the defensive trio of George Baldock, Panagiotis Retsos, and Giorgos Kyriakopoulos.
