Real Madrid on the charge
It was an outcome many expected to happen come the end of the campaign, but Real Madrid now look like they’re strolling to the La Liga title. With defending champions Barcelona struggling, it was Girona giving Real Madrid the biggest challenge in their title hopes, a surprise name at the top of the table.
For so many weeks these two sides were neck and neck, but while Real Madrid know what’s required in title races, Girona’s lack of experience got to them. But it wouldn’t be fair on Real Madrid to put their now-six-point lead just down to Girona falling, as Los Blancos have been brilliant this season. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have lost just once in the league, falling 3-1 to Atletico Madrid in their sixth game — having won their opening five. But since that defeat in September, Real Madrid have won 14 of their past 19 league games. Sevilla were one of the teams to prevent Real Madrid from winning, in a 1-1 draw in October, and Los Blancos have also drawn two of their past three. The first came against Atletico Madrid, who Real Madrid will be happy to see the back of, while Rayo Vallecano held them last time out.
Sevilla, on the other hand, have had a season to forget. At points this season there have been genuine worries about Sevilla getting relegated, such has been their performances. They’ve won just five league games so far, with nine draws and 11 defeats. But, a mini-unbeaten run of four games, with two wins and two draws, have lifted Sevilla up slightly. They now sit seven points clear of the relegation zone and may be able to plan for next season.
Real Madrid vs Sevilla match tip
Highest Scoring Half: Second @ 1/1 by Betfred
Real Madrid are very much a second-half side this season. Los Blancos have scored 53 goals in La Liga so far, and a whopping 34 of those have come in the second halves of their matches. In fact, seven of their 12 home league games this season have seen at least two goals scored in the second half — compared to just four games with at least two goals in the first half.
Real Madrid vs Sevilla odds
Although Sevilla are in a good run of form, Real Madrid are better. They are unbeaten in 19 in the league and look very tough to beat. At the Santiago Bernabeu this season, Real Madrid have won 10 of their 12 games, only failing to beat Rayo Vallecano and Atletico Madrid (both draws). At the same time, Sevilla have only managed two victories from their 12 away league games this season, losing six.
