Barcelona ‘can dream’ of winning the Champions League again, says Xavi
For the first time in four years, Barcelona are in the Champions League quarter-finals. That is probably a better indicator of their recent struggles rather than any progress made this season and it’s been almost a decade since the Blaugrana won the competition.
However, manager Xavi — who is preparing to come up against his former teammate in PSG boss Luis Enrique — believes Barca supporters can now ‘dream’ again of winning world football’s biggest club competition, relishing the ‘excitement’ of being at this stage again rather than feeling any sort of apprehension.
“I think the word for tomorrow, after being out of the quarter-finals for four years, is excitement,” Xavi told reporters at a press conference. “We can dream and we are very motivated.
“We are enjoying our best form of the season and we will face a team prepared to win the Champions League with one of the better coaches in Luis Enrique. I have all the respect in the world for them.”
