PSG vs Aston Villa prediction, odds, tips & team news

Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa will both be looking to take control of their Champions League quarter-final tie when they meet in the first leg at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday 9th April at 8pm (UK time). Aston Villa are at this stage of Europe’s top competition for the first time in 42 years, while PSG are still chasing that elusive first European crown. This game will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 1.
PSG to Win and Both Teams to Score (7/4 with Sky Bet)
Aston Villa are hitting form just at the right time of the campaign, but in PSG, they face a different beast. The Parisiens have their league title wrapped up with a 22-point lead in Ligue 1, and managed to see off Liverpool in the previous round of this competition.
Villa have scored in their last 12 consecutive matches, and they can get on the scoresheet here. However, PSG’s midfield dominated Liverpool, and with their world-class attackers, they have the ability to score on numerous occasions. Backing the hosts to win and both teams to score looks the way to play this game at 7/4.
John McGinn to commit 2+ Fouls, be Fouled 2+ times & be carded (9/1 with Paddy Power)
John McGinn will have his work cut out against such a high-quality team. Looking at his foul committed figures, he’s given away at least two in five of his last six league matches.
The Scot looks like a prime candidate to be carded in this game as his side look to remain in the tie for the return leg at Villa Park. McGinn has started 23 league matches this season, and he has been carded, along with giving away 2+ fouls and being fouled at least twice in five of those. That’s a 21.7% hit rate, and with odds of 9/1 only implying a 10% chance of success, this looks a value bet.

How both teams go into PSG vs Aston Villa
PSG still haven’t won the Champions League despite all the money they have spent, and it’s brought them under a lot of scrutiny. But, they have been growing in the Champions League this season. The French champions finished 15th in the group stage and had to go through the knockout phase play-offs, though they were one of the seeded sides. They had won four of their eight group games, losing three and drawing one. In the knockout phase play-offs, PSG were drawn against fellow French side Brest, who they crushed 10-0 on aggregate. The big result came in the last-16 as they knocked out Liverpool on penalties, thanks to a 0-1 win at Anfield.
This season has been a dream for Aston Villa in the Champions League. And they certainly haven’t been making up the numbers, as some before them. Making their long-awaited return to the top table of European football, Aston Villa finished eighth in the group stage with five wins, one draw and two defeats. That earned them direct passage into the last 16. There, Villa were pit against Belgian side Club Brugge and they enjoyed a comfortable 6-1 aggregate victory.
PSG team news
Marquinhos will have to sit this game out through suspension after an accumulation of yellow cards. Lee Kang-in suffered an injury while on international duty, and is expected to miss this match.
Aston Villa team news
