How both teams go into Plymouth vs Liverpool
Plymouth pulled off a big shock in the previous round, beating Premier League Brentford 1-0 away from home with an 82nd-minute strike from Morgan Whittaker. However, they failed to kick on since then, taking just two points from four Championship games. Things has turned around a bit for the west country side though, taking four points from their last two games. Argyle sit bottom of the table with 25 points, four points from safety.
Liverpool thrashed Accrington Stanley 4-0 in the third round and since then, have fully recovered from a minor blip, coming from behind to draw 1-1 at Nottingham Forest before beating Brentford, Lille and Ipswich in the Premier League and Champions League, respectively. It goes without saying that the Reds head south as the massive favourites.
Plymouth team news
Former Everton defender Brendan Galloway is out for the season with a hip injury, while Joe Edwards won’t be back in time for this match. Kornel Szucs should be fit to play a part, however.
Liverpool team news
Trent Alexander-Arnold is definitely out for this match, but Arne Slot could have a full squad available otherwise. The Dutchman may choose to rest a few key players with a busy schedule ahead.
Plymouth vs Liverpool head-to-head
These two sides have met just twice since 1962, with Plymouth managing an unlikely 0-0 draw at Anfield in the FA Cup in January 2017. Liverpool only managed a 1-0 win in the replay, with Lucas Leiva scoring the solitary goal at Home Park.
