However, Porto’s recent successes have seen Sporting drop to third, also partly due to their own drought. The capital club have won the cup just five times this century, last taking the crown in 2019 when they beat Porto in the final. Since then they have suffered two third-round exits, a last-16 defeat and lost in the semi-finals in 2021/22. Last season it was a third-round exit to Varzim, who ply their trade in the third tier of Portuguese football.
Olivais e Moscavide are even lower than that, one of the regional sides still in the competition. From Lisbon, Olivais e Moscavide have already played two games in the Portuguese Cup to reach this stage. In the first round, they beat Real SC 2-1 before knocking out Os Sandinenses last time out, despite both sides going down to 10 men.
