Nottingham Forest vs Wolves Premier League prediction: Midlands rivals lock horns at the City Ground

Nottingham Forest and Wolves clash in the Premier League on matchday three.

Three Nottingham Forest vs Wolves predictions

Nottingham Forest 1-1 Wolves (13/2 with Bet365)

The last two Premier League showdowns between Forest and Wolves at the City Ground ended in a stalemate.

Under 2.5 goals (Evens with Bet365)

Recent meetings between the Midlands rivals haven’t been the highest of scoring affairs. Before an entertaining 2-2 draw earlier this year, the last four contests in all competitions saw fewer than 2.5 goals scored.

Chris Wood to score anytime (7/4 with Bet365)

Last season was among Chris Wood’s finest in his Premier League career. The marksman from Auckland bagged 14 goals across 31 appearances, with six coming in Forest’s last 10 matches.

How both teams head into Nottingham Forest vs Wolves

In their second campaign back playing Premier League football, Nottingham Forest ultimately staved off relegation by six points, despite suffering a four-point deduction. A managerial change that saw former Wolves boss, Nuno Espírito Santo, replace Steve Cooper paid dividends. Forest won two of their last three matches but secured only one win from their last five at home. Before locking horns with his former club, Espírito Santo navigated clashes between south coast outfits Southampton and Bournemouth, subsequently picking up four points from a possible six. A narrow win over the Saints followed an opening weekend draw against Bournemouth.

Wolves finished three places above Forest with a healthy 14-point gap. Gary O’Neil’s side, though, ended their 2023/24 season miserably, having lost three on the bounce and claiming one win from their last 10 games played (seven losses and two draws). Three defeats came on the road, albeit against members of last season’s top four (Aston Villa, Manchester City, and Liverpool). Sandwiched in between was a stalemate at Forest. Life in 2024/25 has started terribly, with consecutive losses against Arsenal and Chelsea. The latter match saw them concede six goals.

Nottingham Forest faces Wolves at 3pm  (UK time) on Saturday 31st August at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest team news

Danilo isn’t expected to resume training until December following an injury he sustained on the first day of the season. He had a successful surgery to repair the broken ankle he suffered just eight minutes into the campaign.

Ryan Yates was absent from Wednesday’s match against Newcastle United. He was supposed to play but was withdrawn just before kick-off due to illness.

Wolves team news

Boubacar Traore came off in the 45th minute of Wolves’ cup match against Burnley for Mario Lemina due to knee pain. O’Neil mentioned in his post-match press conference on Wednesday night that it’s too early to determine the seriousness of the injury.

Nelson Semedo is back and available for selection after serving the third and final game of his suspension. He was sent off against Liverpool on the final day of last season, and the club opted not to appeal against the decision.

Enso Gonzalez and Sasa Kalajdzic are long-term absentees. Gonzalez suffered an ACL injury while representing Paraguay at the Olympic Games. The 19-year-old will be out of action for nine months after undergoing surgery earlier this month.
