How both teams go into Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle

Nobody would have expected this from Nottingham Forest. After battling relegation last season, Forest are currently leading the best of the rest. They’ve taken 19 points from their opening 10 games this season, already just 13 points off their tally from 2023-24. They’ve won five of their 10 matches so far, including a victory over Liverpool at Anfield. Forest’s sole league defeat this season came against Fulham, but they are unbeaten in their four games since including three consecutive wins.

Newcastle have had a bit of strange campaign. They started off really well, with three wins from their opening four games and were unbeaten. But a defeat to Fulham started a minor downward spiral. The Magpies suffered a five-game winless streak in the Premier League, including three defeats, but they did also secure a draw against Manchester City. Newcastle returned to winning ways in the league last weekend with a strong 1-0 victory over Arsenal.

Nottingham Forest team news

James Ward-Prowse is available once again, having been ineligible to face his parent club West Ham last weekend. Ibrahim Sangare is out until after the international break, while Danilo isn’t expected to return until the new year.

Newcastle team news

Jacob Murphy could be in contention to return after a slight hamstring injury. Kieran Trippier could also be available, but may not be risked. Callum Wilson is out until after the international break, while Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are out until the new year.

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle head-to-head
