How to watch Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle live

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle is scheduled for 7:45pm on Wednesday 28th August and will be broadcast live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.

How both teams go into Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle

Eddie Howe will be hoping to take his Newcastle side all the way to Wembley again in the EFL Cup this season. But first they must overcome a tough test at the City Ground.

The Magpies made it all the way to the League Cup final in 2023, losing 2-0 to Manchester United and will be looking to go one step further this time around. They have started this season with four points from their opening two matches in the Premier League after following up a 1-0 victory over Southampton despite being down to 10-men, with a hard fought point away at Bournemouth at the weekend.

Standing in their way of a place in the third round are Nottingham Forest who, like Newcastle, have also taken four points from their first two matches. In an interesting coincidence, they have played exactly the same two sides as Newcastle with the exact same results. Besides a semi-final defeat to Manchester United in 2023, Forest have been knocked out of the EFL Cup in the second round in three of the previous four campaigns, including a 1-0 defeat to Burnley last season.

Nottingham Forest host Newcastle at the City Ground on Wednesday 28th August at 7:45pm.

Nottingham Forest team news

Nuno Espirito Santo should hand some his fringe players a start for this game with Taiwo Awoniyi, Nicolás Domínguez and Ryan Yates all pushing for a place in the XI. Danilo is out for the long term and the only confirmed absentee.

Newcastle team news

Callum Wilson, Lewis Miley, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles all remain out for Eddie Howe’s side, but Sandro Tonali is available for the first time in 10 months after his ban expired. The likes of Harvey Barnes, Lewis Hall, Miguel Almiron and Joe Willock should all be handed a start as Eddie Howe rotates his side.

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle head-to-head

The away side have been victorious in each of the previous three matches between these two sides, with Newcastle coming out on top in the most recent meeting.
