Can Nigeria put AFCON final defeat behind them?
After some impressive displays at the African Cup of Nations, Nigeria’s quest for a fourth AFCON title fell at the final hurdle. Despite leading at HT through a William Troost-Ekong header, the Super Eagles saw their dreams slip away as hosts Ivory Coast come from behind with two second half strikes from Franck Kessié and Sébastien Haller to secure the trophy.
It had been an impressive showing by the Super Eagles, keeping four clean sheets in their opening five matches of the tournament and going unbeaten all the way until the final. However, it was not to be as Ivory Coast made an incredible comeback after their poor showing in the group stages and sacking their manager during the tournament.
They now face a Ghana side who had a horrible time at AFCON. The Black Stars failed to win a single game, falling to defeat to Cape Verde in the opening match before back-to-back draws against Egypt and Mozambique saw them knocked out during the group stages. It was the first time since 2006 that they had failed to make the knockout rounds and are currently on a poor run across all competitions, winning just one of their last eight games and are without a victory in their last five.
Nigeria vs Ghana match tip
Nigeria to win & Under 2.5 goals @13/5 with Bet365
Nine of Nigeria’s last ten international matches have seen under 2.5 goals scored, while the Super Eagles won all four of their games at the African Cup of Nations in normal time without conceding. Ghana are without a win in their last five International matches and have picked up just one victory in their last eight.
Nigeria vs Ghana odds
The Super Eagles are slight favs going into this game after their impressive showing at the African Cup of Nations that saw them go all the way to the final, conceding just one goal in their opening five games of the tournament. Ghana have just one win in their last eight, so it’s no surprise they are best price 16/5 to secure victory here.
