How both teams go into Newcastle vs Wolves

These are two sides very much enjoying life in the Premier League right now. Newcastle are one of the form sides in the English top-flight, now winning five games in a row. It has them fifth, just one point outside the Champions League qualification places. And given the form of the team directly above them, it may not be too long before they’re in the top four. The Magpies have won 10 of their 20 games so far, with only the top three managing more.

Wolves, meanwhile, are just outside the relegation zone. But things are finally looking up. Under Gary O’Neil, Wolves looked destined for the Championship. But they went unbeaten in their first three games under Pereira, winning two and drawing one. A 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest did serve as a reminder that Wolves are still very much in the relegation battle. But their hopes of safety look a lot brighter than they did just a few weeks ago.

Newcastle team news

This game is still expected to be too soon for Nick Pope, meaning Martin Dubravka will continue in goal. Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth are also still out injured.

Wolves team news

Matheus Cunha will be available for selection after suspension, while Pablo Sarabia and Mario Lemina may also be back from injury. Boubacar Traore and Sasa Kalajdzic are out injured, while Enso Gonzalez and Yerson Mosquera are longer-term absentees.

Newcastle vs Wolves head-to-head

Newcastle are unbeaten in their past six games against Wolves, winning four. They’re also unbeaten in their past five home games in this fixture.
