It was a rocky start to the campaign for Newcastle, which is a strange thing to say considering they won their opening match 5-1. But the Magpies followed that victory up with three straight defeats, adding to the worries that they would struggle once the Champions League came around. Instead, Newcastle have upped their game since juggling the Premier League and Europe, now unbeaten in five league matches. There were three straight victories over Brentford, Sheffield United and Burnley, before a draw against West Ham before the international break. The Magpies returned to Premier League action with a comfortable 4-0 win against Crystal Palace.

Eddie Howe’s side have been impressive in front of goal, scoring the most goals (24), having the highest xG (19.9), the highest shot conversion rate (18.9%), the most big chances (37) and the highest big chance conversion (54.1%).

Wolves were also on a mini unbeaten run before the international break. Having lost four and won one of their opening five matches, some were tipping Wolves for relegation, a terrible start to Gary O’Neil’s time in charge. But they ended the losing streak with a draw against Luton and built on that to beat Manchester City, a shock result. They weren’t able to make it two wins in a row but Wolves still went into the international break on the back of a respectable draw against Aston Villa. And there was another victory on the return with Wolves coming from behind to beat Gary O’Neil’s former side Bournemouth at the Vitality.

They are now unbeaten in their last four Premier League games (W2 D2), their longest run without defeat since January 2022 (5). They’ve taken more points from these four games (8) than they had in their previous 10 (7).

Wolves vs Newcastle match tip

Over 6.5 cards @ 31/20

Wolves haven’t been the best of teams with regards to discipline this season, with no side has being shown more cards than them in the Premier League this season, with O’Neil’s side collecting 34 so far. Of those 34, 31 have been yellows with three reds, the second-most in the top-flight. Newcastle aren’t too clean either, with 23 cards so far.

Wolves vs Newcastle Bet-Builder tip

BTTS > Callum Wilson to score > Over 5.5 shots on target for Newcastle

After struggling to find the net in their opening game against Manchester United, despite dominating the attacking play, Wolves have scored in each of their past 10 matches across all competitions. However, Newcastle have been pretty strong in front of goal too. The Magpies are averaging 6.56 shots on target per game in the the Premier League this season, with Callum Wilson scoring on each of his past two away league starts. The forward is also averaging a goal every 66 minutes in the Premier League this season (5 goals in 330 minutes), the best rate of any player to have played at least 90 minutes so far.

The injury problems are starting to mount up for Eddie Howe, with Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy both joining Harvey Barnes, Sven Botman and Elliot Anderson in the treatment room. Joe Willock made his first appearance of the season as a late sub against Dortmund in midweek however, but probably won’t be risked from the start as they ease him back in.
