Newcastle vs Liverpool odds
After an incredible season in which they secured a long-awaited return to the Champions League, Newcastle United opened the new campaign with an eye-catching 5-1 win over a talented Aston Villa side. Unfortunately, they could only follow that up with a 1-0 loss away at champions Manchester City, but they showed enough there that they can be a force again this time around. Next up is a home clash with unbeaten Liverpool and, given the changing times on Tyneside, Eddie Howe will expect a positive result at home, even against a powerhouse like Jurgen Klopp’s side.
As for the Reds, they missed out on the top four last season but have shown positive signs in their opening matches against Chelsea and Bournemouth, drawing 1-1 at Stamford Bridge before winning 3-1 at Anfield. It’s been a summer of turnover for Jurgen Klopp, especially in midfield, but his side are still among the favourites for the Premier League title. Going away to Newcastle and bringing back a result (at odds of 19/10 with Copybet) is the sort of statement that would put the rest of the English top flight on high alert.

Newcastle vs Liverpool match tip
Liverpool have an incredible recent record against Newcastle. They haven’t lost against the Magpies in any competition since 2015. However, Newcastle are a different animal nowadays and will have unnerved plenty of the Premier League’s elite with their 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa on the opening weekend. Liverpool, meanwhile, were rather functional in their 1-1 draw away at Chelsea, following this up with a come-from-behind win against Bournemouth. The Reds would likely be happy with a repeat of that result here.
Newcastle vs Liverpool Bet-Builder tip
Under 2.5 goals > Alexander Isak to score anytime > Draw
Given the close match in quality between the two sides, a low-scoring and hard-fought draw seems like the most likely outcome. One man who could tip the scales either way, however, is Alexander Isak, who put Villa to the sword on the opening day.
That said, his performance there was just a continuation of his excellent form since joining Newcastle — form that has caught the eye of former Middlesbrough, Fulham and Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, who even believes Isak could challenge Erling Haaland for the Premier League Golden Boot.
“I think he’s a really good signing and there’s a big chance for him to go on and do well,” Schwarzer told the Optus Sport Football Podcast. “The key is keeping him fit. If he stays fit…do you think he’s a rival, potentially, to Haaland this season with the Golden Boot?
“I’d like to think with the chances Newcastle will hopefully create…we need someone in the Premier League to push Man City all the way, and if someone’s going to do it, they’re also going to have to have someone up top who’s going to score a lot of goals for them. Maybe Newcastle’s that team – and he’s got the ability, hasn’t he?”
