Before the November international break, Newcastle saw their seven-game unbeaten run in the Premier League come to an end, as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth. It was the continuation of what has been a pretty poor run of form away from home in the league this season. Of six games not played at St James’ Park, Newcastle have only managed to beat Sheffield United (8-0). However, at home they are a lot more comfortable. The Magpies have won five of their six home league games this season, including victory against Arsenal, ending the Gunners’ unbeaten start earlier in November.
The Toon Army are also yet to lose a single Saturday 3pm Premier League kick off under manager Eddie Howe (W12 D6) and if they win without conceding again this weekend, it will be the first time in 116 years they have won five consecutive home league matches whilst keeping a clean sheet each time.
Chelsea have been a strange story this season. They are still 10th with 16 points after 12 games, winning four, drawing four and losing four. However, with the exception of a defeat to Aston Villa, all of Chelsea’s defeats have been against those lower down in the standings. They have been beaten by West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Brentford, with the former their only away loss. Since that defeat, Chelsea have drawn one and won three away from home, including victory over Tottenham. The win against Spurs, albeit facing nine men and ridiculous tactics, is another positive for Chelsea against the bigger teams. They have drawn with Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City, the latter a 4-4 thriller last time out at Stamford Bridge.
Since the start of October, Chelsea’s Premier League matches have seen 26 goals scored (16 for, 10 against), the most of any club. There have also been more shots on target (62) in their games than any other team in that time, while the xG generated by both Chelsea and their opponents is also outright top (22.8). They have also netted exactly four goals in three of their last five Premier League games (4-1 vs Burnley, 4-1 vs Spurs, 4-4 vs Man City), having not scored four times in any of their previous 53 games beforehand.

Newcastle vs Chelsea match tip
As mentioned, Chelsea have been a weird team this season, which makes it entirely plausible that they could get something from St James’ Park. Last time out, Chelsea came from behind three times to hold Man City to a 4-4 draw, adding to points gained against Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as a win over Tottenham. The Blues have generally fared better against the bigger, more attacking sides.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are the only away side to leave St.James’ Park with all three points so far this campaign.
Newcastle vs Chelsea Bet-Builder tip
BTTS > Nicolas Jackson to be carded > Anthony Gordon to be carded
Chelsea may have struggled for goals at home (six goals against Arsenal and Man City aside), but on the road they haven’t been too bad. Aside from a goalless draw with Bournemouth, Chelsea have scored in four away league games this season. Newcastle, meanwhile, have scored in all of their home league matches. This match also sees two of the Premier League’s most-carded players meet up, with only Nicolas Jackson (seven) being shown more yellows this season than Anthony Gordon (six).
Newcastle have scored in all of their home matches this season, while Chelsea have found the back of the net in four of their five away games.
No player has received more yellow cards in the Premier League this season than Nicolas Jackson (7).
Only Nicolas Jackson (7) has picked up more yellow cards in the Premier League this season than Anthony Gordon (6).

The injuries are racking up for Newcastle, and it became something of a boiling point between Kieran Trippier and travelling fans in the defeat to Bournemouth. However, they will be hopeful of the return of Alexander Isak, using the international break for recovery. Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron, Javier Manquillo, Matt Targett, Sven Botman, Elliot Anderson, Harvey Barnes, Dan Burn and Jacob Murphy are longer-term absentees, while Sandro Tonali is banned. Bruno Guimaraes will be available after suspension.

Christopher Nkunku is eyeing up a competitive appearance for Chelsea, asking Mauricio Pochettino to be involved when the Blues return from the international break. Romeo Lavia could also recover from injury in time for his debut, while Levi Colwill should be fine after missing the international break with a shoulder problem. However, Trevoh Chalobah, Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chilwell and Wesley Fofana remain out, the latter injured until the end of the season.
