Newcastle vs Man City predictions

After a less-than-ideal summer transfer window, there wasn’t much optimism for Newcastle heading into the new campaign. Eddie Howe’s men started well, though, unbeaten in their first four matches. They won three of those, but there was an argument that the draw with Bournemouth should have resulted in a defeat.

Nevertheless, the defeat did come last time out. The Magpies were pulled part at Craven Cottage in a 3-1 defeat to Fulham. But Newcastle do remain unbeaten in their past 10 home Premier League matches.

The last team to beat Newcastle in the league at St James’ Park were Man City, and they’ll look to reset the run this weekend. The defending champions saw their perfect start to the Premier League come to an end last week with their draw against Arsenal. Of course, they were so close to losing, only rescuing a point against the 10 men thanks to John Stones’ equaliser in the eighth minute of injury time.

The draw kept Man City top of the Premier League, one point clear of Liverpool and Aston Villa. But it also showed the weak points of Man City and where opposition teams can get at them. Pep Guardiola’s side have conceded in each of their past four Premier League matches. At the other end of the pitch, though, Erling Haaland broke another record with his 10th goal after five league matches this season.

Newcastle team news

Newcastle will have to continue without Callum Wilson and Lewis Miley, both of whom aren’t expected back until after the international break. Wilson is yet to feature this season due to a back injury, putting a lot of responsibility on Alexander Isak to lead the line. Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are longer-term absentees

Man City team news

As well as the dropped points against Arsenal, there was a massive blow for Man City. Having not long returned to the XI, Rodri picked up a serious ligament injury and now looks like missing the entire season. Mateo Kovacic should slot back into the midfield alongside Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva, if Kevin De Bruyne isn’t able to return from injury.

Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb are also out injured, with the former not expected back until after the international break.
