Netherlands vs Austria predictions, tips and odds: Oranje seek group win after French stalemate
Netherlands and Austria go head-to-head when they contest their final group stage fixture at Euro 2024.

Netherlands vs Austria Latest Prediction
The Netherlands will aim to break a nearly four-decade drought for an international title at Euro 2024 this summer, and progression into the knockout phase was secured a day before kick-off when Spain beat Albania 1-0, ensuring they would, at least, be one of the four best third-placed teams.
Ronald Koeman’s men followed an opening 2-1 win over Poland by holding co-tournament favourites France to a goalless stalemate. It leaves Oranje top of their group, meaning they will be through in first place if they win and France doesn’t, or if the Netherlands draws and France loses. The Netherlands will finish second if they draw and France wins.
If the Netherlands and France both win or both draw, they will be split for first place on overall goal difference, then overall goals scored, then disciplinary points, then European Qualifiers rankings. Similarly, if the Netherlands and France both lose, they will be split for second and third place by the same criteria.
As for Austria, they bounced back after their 1–0 loss to France by running out 3–1 winners over Poland, who became the first team eliminated from this summer’s tournament. Ralf Rangnick’s side knows they will be through to the round of 16 (in the top two) if they beat the Netherlands. Austria will win the group if they win and France don’t. If Austria draw and France lose, Austria will finish third behind France on the head-to-head record.
The showdown between Netherlands and Austria occurs on June 25 at the Olympiastadion, Berlin.
One man who perhaps wouldn’t have expected to start for the Netherlands at this summer’s tournament is midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, but the AC Milan man has been keen to make an impression in the absence of Frenkie de Jong and Teun Koopmeiners.
The 25 year old has let off five shots in his first two appearances at Euro 2024 and with the Netherlands looking to beat Austria to secure a top two spot they may look to a long-range Reijnders effort to catch Burschen out on the break.

Austria aim for their first major international tournament success when they travel to neighbouring Germany this summer. Under the leadership of Ralf Rangnick, known as the ‘godfather of gegenpressing’, there is a renewed belief that Austria could be a dark horse in the competition. This will be the nation’s fourth European Championship appearance, and to make history, they must successfully navigate the first knockout round.
Netherlands Latest Team News
Koeman made two changes for the France game following their successful outing against Poland. Xavi Simons moved into a number 10 role, with Jeremie Frimpong starting on the right flank, and Joey Veerman dropped. It remains to be seen if this becomes a permanent starting lineup.
Austria Latest Team News
As the old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” Rangnick, who stumbled upon a winning formula against the Poles, is expected to make a few changes when facing their Dutch opponents. Sabitzer and Baumgartner are, though, likely to flank a returning Gregoritsch, with Arnautovic dropping to the bench.
Netherlands vs Austria Head-to-Head
In the first 12 meetings, Austria had the upper hand, winning half of the matches. However, the Netherlands had a dominant victory at the 1978 World Cup, with a 5-1 win under the leadership of Austrian coach Ernst Happel. Happel later led the opposing team in May 1992, when the Netherlands began a winning streak that continues to this day. In the most recent Euro 2020 group match, Frank de Boer’s team secured a 2-0 victory with goals from Memphis Depay and Denzel Dumfries in Amsterdam.
