Netherlands vs Bosnia-Herzegovina Uefa Nations League A prediction and stats: Will Oranje build on surprise semi-final run?
Netherlands will be hoping to build on their fine run at Euro 2024 when they host Bosnia-Herzegovina in the Uefa Nations League on Saturday.
Ronald Koeman’s side made an unexpected run to the Euro 2024 semi-finals, only losing out to England late on. Bosnia-Herzegovina, meanwhile, had a free summer but prepare for life back in Uefa Nations League A after promotion.
Three predictions for Netherlands vs Bosnia-Herzegovina
Netherlands 3-0 Bosnia-Herzegovina (6/1 with Betfred)
Oranje are rarely troubled when playing at the Philips Stadion with nine wins across their previous 12 fixtures at PSV’s home.
Cody Gakpo to score anytime (13/10 with Unibet)
The in-and-out Liverpool winger has become an integral part of Koeman’s attack. He shone brightly at Euro 2024 and comes into this fixture having scored in three of the Netherlands’ last six matches.
Handicap: Netherlands -2 (5/4 with BetGoodwin)
Four of the Netherlands’ last five games at the Philips Stadion have seen them win by a margin of two or more goals.

How both teams go into Netherlands vs Bosnia-Herzegovina
Not many were optimistic about Netherlands going deep at Euro 2024, particularly with the draw. But in a tournament of twists and turns, Koeman’s men qualified for the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed teams.
Oranje made it all the way to the semi-finals, beating Romania and Turkey en route. Koeman’s men were beaten by England in the semi-finals, with Ollie Watkins scoring the late winner. But it was enough to make Koeman’s job safe for another cycle.
Bosnia-Herzegovina, meanwhile, were absent from Euro 2024. In fact, since their independence, they are yet to qualify for a European Championships. For a fourth consecutive time, Bosnia lost in the play-offs, this time beaten in the semi-finals by Ukraine. As a result, Savo Milosevic’s contract was not renewed, with Sergej Barbarez taking over.
Netherlands host Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday 7th September at 7:45pm (UK time) at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven.
Netherlands team news
One notable absentee from the Netherlands’ squad is Girona defender Daley Blind, who has retired from international football. Koeman’s starting XI shouldn’t be too different from his main lineup at Euro 2024, but there are a few absentees
Joey Veerman and Micky van de Ven have both pulled out due to injury. There will also be no Steven Bergwijn, with Koeman insisting he will no longer be called up after his move to Saudi Arabia.
“The book is basically closed to him. He knows what I think about this,” Koeman said. “When you are 26, your main ambition should be sporting, not financial. These are choices that players make.
“I have never been in that situation, because I could go to Barcelona. He could have stayed at Ajax, that’s not bad, is it? You have to respect that choice, but personally I wouldn’t [have moved].”
Ian Maatsen is another controversial omission, instead playing for the Netherlands U21s.
Bosnia-Herzegovina team news
Edin Dzeko, who turned 38 in March, continues to be a presence in the Bosnia-Herzegovina team. He is by far the most experienced member of Barbarez’s team, with a handful of players amassing less than 10 international caps.
Netherlands vs Bosnia-Herzegovina head-to-head
This will be just the second meeting between these two nations. After a draw in the first match, Netherlands beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 3-1, both coming in the Uefa Nations League.
