Betting tips
Morocco 1-2 Spain (8/1 with Bet365)
Spain have won two and lost just one of their five combined Olympic and full international meetings with Morocco, but no team has won this fixture by more than one goal.
Soufiane Rahimi to score anytime (17/5 with BetMGM)
Soufiane Rahimi is the top scorer in the Olympics men’s football tournament with five goals so far; at least two more than any other player.
Half-time/full-time: Morocco/Spain (25/1 with Sky Bet)
Two-thirds of Spain’s goals at this tournament have come in the second half, while three of the four goals they’ve conceded have come in the first half.
Morocco and Spain lock horns in the semi-final of the Olympics men’s football tournament on Monday at 5pm (UK time).
Morocco have been the great entertainers at these games so far, scoring 10 goals in four games, including a 4-0 thrashing of the United States in the quarter-finals. There was one hiccup in the group stage when they fell 2-1 to Ukraine, but they’ve quickly recovered to score seven without reply in their last two matches. This is the first time Morocco have even made it out of the groups at the Olympics so coming this close to a medal is a mouth-watering prospect.
Things are about to get much more difficult now, however, as they prepare to take on a Spain side highly fancied to take gold. It’s been an incredible summer for Spanish football after they won Euro 2024 — adding to the Nations League crown from last year — and now they’re within touching distance of their first gold medal since Barcelona 1992.
Of course, the last time these two nations faced off in a big international, Morocco beat Spain on penalties in the 2022 World Cup round of 16. This should be a wide-open game between two teams full of goals.
Morocco team news
Morocco are free of injury and suspension for this semi-final clash and will be doing everything to provide chances for Al Ain striker Rahimi, who already has five goals at this tournament.
Spain team news
Pau Cubarsi returned from suspension against Japan last time out in a match where manager Santi Denia reverted back to his strongest XI following the final group match against Egypt where they lost 2-1, but fielded a rotated team having already qualified.
Morocco vs Spain head-to-head
Morocco and Spain have faced off five times at senior and Olympic level, with Spain winning twice and Morocco once. The only Olympic meeting came in 2012 in the form of a goalless draw in the group stage.
