Man Utd vs Newcastle

Manchester United and Newcastle meet at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Monday, December 30th, at 8pm (UK time). The match can be seen live on Sky Sports and we’ve asked Anthony Eadson to preview the action and provide us with his best bets.

Alexander Isak anytime goalscorer (6/4 with Paddy Power)

December has been a sensational month for Newcastle and Alexander Isak so far. The 25-year-old striker has scored seven league goals in his last five games, including a hat-trick in the 4-2 win over Ipswich. The Swede is behind only Mo Salah (16), Erling Haaland (13) and Cole Palmer (12) on 11 league goals in the race for the Golden Boot. With United having serious issues in defence, 6/4 looks a very backable price after seven in his last five for Isak.

Newcastle to Win and both teams to Score (7/2 with Sky Bet)

The Magpies arrive here at Old Trafford having recorded four straight wins, with victories over Leicester, Aston Villa and Ipswich, and a 3-1 win over Brentford in the Carabao Cup. Those points have propelled Eddie Howe’s men up to seventh in the table, and a win on Monday evening could take them as high as fifth.

Man United on the other hand, have lost more Premier League games since the start of December (4) than any other team. They last lost more league games in a single calendar month back in September 1962 (5). Bournemouth and Wolves have beaten Ruben Amorim’s side in their last two outings, and with confidence so low, Newcastle can take advantage.

How both teams go into Man Utd vs Newcastle

Over the festive period, things have gone from bad to worse for Manchester United. Ruben Amorim had started the month with defeats against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest but did manage back-to-back victories over Viktoria Plzen and Manchester City to lift the mood. However, the 4-3 defeat to Spurs in the League Cup has since been followed by a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth and a 2-0 defeat at Wolves on Boxing Day. United now sit 14th in the table, 23 points behind leaders Liverpool, and only eight points above the relegation zone.

Newcastle have enjoyed a great month and have benefitted from Alexander Isak’s fine form which has seen the Swede score seven league goals in his last five. Eddie Howe’s side sit seventh in the table before Monday’s matches. They have scored seven without reply across their previous two with a 4-0 win at Ipswich and a 3-0 win over Aston Villa.

Man Utd team news

Luke Shaw remains sidelined, while Ruben Amorim has confirmed Mason Mount is set for another long-term absence. Victor Lindelof is also on the treatment table. Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte will both miss this game through suspensions.

Newcastle team news

Sven Botman, Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles and Callum Wilson all remain sidelined until the new year. Nick Pope remains a doubt and is not yet back to full fitness.

Man Utd vs Newcastle head-to-head

United beat Newcastle 3-2 in their previous meeting back in May, but that only served to end a three-game unbeaten run in this fixture for Newcastle across all competitions.
