On the brink of history

Man City have been chasing in the Premier League title race for some time, having games in hand over their rivals. Their final catch-up match came against Tottenham midweek, with a lot on the line. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been a less-than-happy hunting ground for Man City over the years, but they got the win when it mattered most.

A 2-0 win put Man City two points clear and on the brink of history. Never before in English top-flight history has a men’s team won four consecutive league titles. The threepeat has been done a few times, but four is unprecedented. And yet, here we are, with Man City just one win away from another record.

They’ll be boosted by West Ham being on the beach.  The Hammers are sat ninth in the table and will finish there, unable to catch up to eighth-placed Manchester United and clear enough of Brighton in 10th. It’s shown in their recent results, too.

Although they won their most recent game against Luton, that victory ended a four-game winless run for West Ham, including three defeats. Two defeats were heavy, too, losing 5-0 away to Chelsea and 5-2 to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
