  • Man City have opened the scoring in eight of their last ten home matches across all competitions.

Home dominance to pay off for Man City

Man City is tough to beat wherever they play, but they are a different beast at the Etihad. The Citizens have yet to lose at home this season, winning 15 and drawing three of their 18 games. Man City last lost at home across all competitions in November 2022, a run of 36 unbeaten with 32 wins.

When you focus that record on just the FA Cup, it gets even more challenging for Newcastle. Man City haven’t lost at home in the FA Cup since the fourth round in 2014/15, when they were shocked 2-0 by Middlesbrough. Of course, home games aren’t guaranteed in cup competitions, and it’s the luck of the draw, but this isn’t a short run. Man City have won their last 12 FA Cup home games, including wins over Chelsea and Arsenal. In their only home FA Cup game this season, they beat Huddersfield 5-0 in the third round. The holders beat Tottenham 1-0 before knocking Luton out in the fifth round.

Meanwhile, Newcastle hopes to reach the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2004/05, which would secure a second trip to Wembley in as many years. The Magpies were beaten by Manchester United in the EFL Cup final last year, so they will be hoping for a happier return should they get there. It’s not often that Newcastle reach this stage of the FA Cup, only making it to the quarter-finals twice since their semi-final appearance 19 years ago.

It hasn’t been an easy run for Newcastle either. They beat bitter rivals Sunderland in the third round and then faced Premier League side Fulham, winning 2-0. In the fifth round, Newcastle needed penalties to beat Championship side Blackburn after Sammie Szmodics had cancelled out Anthony Gordon’s opener.
