Life in the Premier League does not get any easier for Ipswich Town. After opening the campaign with a home game against Liverpool — losing 2-0 — they now must travel to face defending champions Man City at the Etihad.

The Citizens went the entire campaign unbeaten at home for the first time under Pep Guardiola in 2023/24, winning 14 and drawing five of their 19 matches on home soil to secure a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title. Across all competitions, it is now 45 matches since they last tasted defeat at the Etihad, breaking their club record of 42 games from 1921, so it would take a huge, huge performance if Ipswich were going to come away with a result.

The Tractor Boys had the second-best away record behind Leicester in the Championship last season, picking up 42 points from 23 matches, but they may struggle on the road this term having scored just 33 goals in those games. Especially given the confidence Man City will carry from their 2-0 win at Chelsea to begin their title defence.

Man City host Ipswich at the Etihad on Saturday 24th August at 3pm (UK time).

Man City team news

Savinho will be hoping to make his home Premier League debut despite coming off at half-time with a knee injury against Chelsea, which Guardiola says isn’t serious. However, Man City will remain without Rodri and Oscar Bobb — with the latter a long-term absentee. Ilkay Gundogan has returned on a free transfer from Barcelona, but would be unlikely to start.

Ipswich team news

Janoi Donacien, Nathan Broadhead, George Hirst, Harry Clarke and Wes Burns are all likely to miss the trip to the Etihad for newly-promoted Ipswich.

Man City vs Ipswich head-to-head

This will be the first league meeting between the two sides in 23 years, with Ipswich coming out 2-1 winners in the Premier League back in May 2001. Late goals from Matt Holland and Martijn Reuser gave the Tractor Boys the victory after Shaun Goater had given Man City the lead.
