Man City vs Inter Milan prediction and stats: A repeat of the 2023 Champions League final
Manchester City and Inter Milan begin their 2024/25 Champions League campaign with a repeat of the 2023 final.
Pep Guardiola’s men emerged 1-0 winners when these two sides met in Istanbul two seasons ago, lifting the Champions League for the first time. That was Inter’s sixth final appearance and the first since winning their third title in 2010.

How to watch Man City vs Inter Milan live
Man City vs Inter Milan kicks off at 8pm on Wednesday 18th September and will be broadcast live in the UK on TNT Sports 1.
How both teams go into Man City vs Inter Milan
Manchester City are looking ominously good at the start of this season once again. Guardiola’s side have won all four of their Premier League games so far, scoring 11 goals with Erling Haaland netting nine of those. However, there have been a couple of defensive lapses against Ipswich, West Ham, and Brentford that will offer hope to anyone they come across in the next few weeks.
Against Brentford the weekend, Yoane Wissa took advantage of a mistake by John Stones to score a header for the Bees within just 22 seconds. Despite the visitors having several opportunities to increase their lead, Haaland’s clinical finishing before half-time ultimately made the difference in the Citizens’ 2-1 victory.
Pep Guardiola’s team are now unbeaten at the Etihad in 46 games across all competitions, winning 39. They’re now preparing for a run of three consecutive home matches across three competitions in seven days. This includes a Champions League clash against Inter Milan on Wednesday, followed by Premier League and EFL Cup games against Arsenal and Watford, respectively.
Inter Milan haven’t been quite as ruthless, drawing their opening game of the Serie A season 2–2 at Genoa. They followed that up with 2–0 and 4–0 wins over Lecce and Atalanta, but were unable to claim their third successive Serie A victory last time out, forced to rescue a 1–1 draw away against Monza. The Nerazzurri appeared to be on course for their first defeat of the season when Dany Mota unexpectedly gave the hosts a lead in the 81st minute. However, Denzel Dumfries saved the day for the visitors by scoring an equaliser just seven minutes later, securing a point for Inter.
As they head into Wednesday’s match, Inter Milan lost only three of their last 20 Champions League games. Nevertheless, the Italian giants have only won the opening match of one of their last nine campaigns in the competition. In their quest for revenge against Man City after their heart-breaking loss in the 2023 Champions League final, Inter Milan will travel to the Etihad having previously won away at four different English clubs in the competition: Newcastle United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool. If they win at Man City, they will become the fourth team, after Barcelona (seven times), Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich (both five times), to win on the road against at least five different English teams.
Man City team news
Man City are still without Oscar Bobb, recovering from a leg fracture. Nathan Ake has also been ruled out until after the next international break in mid-October due to a muscle injury. Rodri should make his first start of the season, while Phil Foden, an unused substitute last time, will also push for a start.
Inter Milan team news
Federico Dimarco and Marko Arnautovic both missed training on Tuesday and haven’t travelled to England. They join Tajon Buchanan on the sidelines.
Man City vs Inter Milan head-to-head
Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Inter in the 2023 Champions League final is the only previous competitive meeting between these two sides.
