Liverpool vs Man Utd prediction, odds, tips and team news
Arch rivals Liverpool and Man Utd go head-to-head on Sunday, 5th January, at 4:30pm (UK time). The match will be shown live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event.
At 1/3, Liverpool are the shortest price they have ever been to win a Premier League match against Manchester United. Arne Slot’s side have been outstanding this season and have won 23 of their 27 matches across all competitions, losing on just one occasion.
The story is slightly different at Old Trafford, with United sitting just seven points above the relegation in 14th. After parting ways with Erik ten Hag, Ruben Amorim has been left to pick up the pieces. However, it’s been a turbulent start for the Portuguese boss, with just two wins in his first eight league matches.
Mohamed Salah to Score Anytime (1/1 Power Price with Paddy Power)
It may seem like an obvious selection, but the even money that is available for Mo Salah to get on the scoresheet on Sunday looks well worth getting stuck into. The Egyptian King is possibly having his best-ever season in the Premier League, proving to the club that he deserves another big-money contract.
Salah has scored an incredible 13 goals across his last 11 Premier League matches, finding the net in all but one of those. His Liverpool side face a Man United outfit that have just lost five league games for the first time in a month since 1962, and considering his record against them, you’d be hard-pushed to bet against him firing again on Sunday.
Salah has scored more goals against the Red Devils than any other team in his career (15). The 32-year-old has scored in eight of the last nine, including when the pair met earlier in the season in Manchester. Other firms such as BetMGM and Unibet have this same bet priced considerably shorter at just 4/7.
Mohamed Salah 2+ Assists (18/1 Boosted Price with Sky Bet)
Sky Bet have a boosted offering of their own for Super Sunday and have pushed out Mo Salah to provide 2+ assists to 18/1 from 12/1. Other firms such as Betfair have this same selection priced much shorter at 8/1, and considering it has landed three times already this season, it could be worth a few quid.
The floodgates could open at Anfield on Sunday if Manchester United’s first-half display against Newcastle were anything to go by. Ruben Amorim’s side have conceded at least two goals in their last four and have failed to score in three consecutive league games.
This bet landed when Liverpool made the trip along the M62 to Old Trafford in September and also cashed in the league meeting at Anfield in 2023 when the hosts ran out 7-0 winners.

How both teams go into Liverpool vs Man Utd
Liverpool are the odds-on favourites to be crowned Premier League Champions this season after a brilliant first half of the campaign. Few people predicted quite how well this team would click under Arne Slot, but heading into January, the Reds have a six-point lead at the top of the table, with a game in hand over Arsenal in second. Liverpool have won three on the bounce in the league, scoring 14 goals in the process, with wins over Spurs, Leicester and West Ham during the festive period.
Man Utd, meanwhile, have been unable to build on their Manchester derby win, crashing out of the EFL Cup against Tottenham before being thumped 3-0 at home to Bournemouth. The Red Devils have since suffered defeats to Wolves and Newcastle, and put simply, if they do not improve for this clash, they face a humiliating afternoon on Merseyside.
Liverpool team news
Joe Gomez picked up a hamstring injury against West Ham and will be out for a few weeks. Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate are set to return to training on Friday. Dominik Szoboszlai returns after serving a one-match suspension.
Man Utd team news
Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte also return from suspensions for this game. Kobbie Mainoo is expected to start after being left on the bench against Newcastle. Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Victor Lindelof miss out through injury.
Liverpool vs Man Utd head-to-head
Liverpool won 3-0 at Old Trafford in September and are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games against Man Utd, crushing them 7-0 in March 2023.
