The Arne Slot era is officially underway as he takes charge of his first-ever Premier League home game as manager of Liverpool.

After a successful trip to Ipswich, the Dutchman will be hoping to continue the Liverpool tradition of avoiding defeat in the opening home game of the campaign when they welcome Brentford to Anfield. The Reds haven’t lost their first home game of a Premier League campaign in any of the last 20 seasons, also going unbeaten in their previous 22 home league matches in the months of August and September (W19, D3) and the new man in charge will be hoping that continues.

If previous games against the Bees are anything to go by then we should see another home win, with Brentford losing on each of their previous eight trips to Anfield by an aggregate score of 19-1. Thomas Frank’s side come off a poor campaign in 2023/24 when they finished 16th, struggling to live up to their previous campaigns. That said, a 2-1 win over Palace last time out should give them a little more confidence.

Liverpool host Brentford at Anfield on Sunday 25th August at 4:30pm (UK time).

Liverpool team news

Arne Slot has a fully fit squad to choose from for the visit of Brentford.

Brentford team news

Aaron Hickey, Igor and Josh Dasilva all look set to miss out on the trip to Anfield, so expect Mads Roerslev to start at right-back once again. Ivan Toney was left out of the squad against Palace with transfer speculation once again increasing and chances are he won’t be a Brentford player by the time this game rolls around.

Liverpool vs Brentford head-to-head

It has been a pretty one-sided affair since Brentford were promoted to the Premier League, with Liverpool winning four of the six meetings, including the last three in a row.
