After a pretty poor start to last season Liverpool almost recovered things to qualify for the Champions League, only missing out in the final few weeks of the campaign. They’ll be hoping there is no such problem this time around, but they will know things are going to get harder with more teams vying at the top. The Reds have seen a few of their big names leave in the summer, with Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Fabinho all leaving the club, with big shoes to fill. However, Liverpool have also added quality to their squad in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, while they’re on the verge of signing Wataru Endo. The Reds made a decent start to the new campaign last week, drawing 1-1 away from home against a Chelsea side that looks set for a much-improved 2022/23 season, so there is reason for optimism around Anfield.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, will be hoping for a calmer campaign this season after their hard fight against relegation. While the Cherries eventually finished 15th, things weren’t comfortable at all and they were only five points clear of the drop zone come the end of the campaign, aided by the fact that there were teams worse than them — rather than Bournemouth being too good. Gary O’Neil was the man to seal safety after replacing Scott Parker very early on but he hasn’t been trusted with the job this season, as Andoni Iraola has come in from Rayo Vallecano. There have been quite a few incomings for Bournemouth including Hamed Traore and Justin Kluivert, while Jefferson Lerma is among those to leave. Like Liverpool, the Cherries kicked things off with a 1-1 draw at home to last year’s Conference League winners West Ham, putting in a promising performance on the day.

The stats behind our Liverpool vs Bournemouth predictions:

  • Liverpool kept just one clean sheet in their five pre-season friendlies, conceding 11 goals. They failed to keep Chelsea out last week.
  • Liverpool scored nine goals when these sides met at Anfield last season.
  • Mohamed Salah has scored eight goals in eight Premier League games against Bournemouth.
  • Only three teams won more home games than Liverpool in the Premier League last season.
  • Bournemouth lost 12 of their 19 Premier League away games last season.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth match tip

Mohamed Salah to score anytime @ 77/100 with Copybet

Mohamed Salah missed a penalty in Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth last season and surprisingly wasn’t involved in a single goal during the 9-0 thrashing earlier in the campaign. But the Egyptian has a good record against the Cherries. Overall, Salah has scored eight goals in eight Premier League matches against Bournemouth, including three in four games at Anfield. Salah assisted Luis Diaz for Liverpool’s first goal of the new season last week and will now be confident of going one better against such a favoured opponent.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth Bet-Builder tip

Liverpool to win, BTTS, Over 2.5 goals & Salah anytime scorer

On top of Salah’s record against Bournemouth, Liverpool have their own good history in this fixture, winning seven of the past eight — though the one defeat did come last time out. However, Liverpool have been nervy in defence in pre-season due to a shift in tactics which has seen them concede 11 goals in five games, including four on two occasions.
