Three Liverpool vs Bournemouth predictions

Liverpool 3-1 Bournemouth (8/1 with Betano)

Liverpool have won their last five Premier League home matches against Bournemouth, with three of those victories by a margin of three or more goals. We don’t expect the hosts to concede more than once, if at all. The Reds’ xG conceded is the lowest in the league (2.81) and the Cherries have failed to score in two of their last three games (and three of their last five games against Liverpool). That said, they are one of the league’s most productive attacks right now (more on that shortly).

Mohamed Salah to score anytime (4/7 with Betano)

Mohamed Salah has scored in seven of his last nine encounters with Bournemouth in the Premier League, netting nine goals. He was unlucky not to score against AC Milan, hitting the underside of the bar twice.

Bournemouth 13+ shots (9/5 with Betano)

Only Brighton (67) and Man City (66) have had more shots than Bournemouth (65) in the Premier League this season, with the Cherries’ average of 16.3 per game their highest in a single top-flight campaign. They are also fourth for xG (7.63), behind Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Initially, Arne Slot couldn’t have wished for a better start as Liverpool manager. His side went into September’s international break with a 100% record. Having undertaken the unenviable task of succeeding Jürgen Klopp in the Anfield hot seat, the former Feyenoord boss started with a pair of 2-0 wins over newly promoted Ipswich and Brentford at home before going to Old Trafford and running out 3-0 winners.

However, last time out, the Reds suffered a shocking 1-0 loss at home to Nottingham Forest. Liverpool have now actually lost two of their previous five Premier League home games (Crystal Palace also beat them 1-0 in mid-April). To put this in context, they had lost just one of their previous 58 at Anfield. They’re now looking to avoid consecutive home league defeats for the first time since March 2021 (a run of six). Their chances of doing so look good, based on how they put the Forest setback behind them with a resounding 3-1 win at AC Milan to kick-start their Champions League campaign.

Bournemouth, in their second campaign with Andoni Iraola at the helm, began tentatively with back-to-back 1-1 draws against Nottingham Forest and Newcastle. The Cherries felt hard done by in the latter, as a late Dango Ouattara goal was controversially disallowed. However, they responded with an incredible comeback win on their most recent visit to Merseyside by beating Everton after trailing by two goals until the 87th minute. Bournemouth scored three unanswered goals, including two in stoppage time—something they’ve never done before in Premier League history.

It proved to be the latest comeback win a Premier League team has managed when two or more goals down. Only two teams have ever faced both Merseyside clubs in consecutive Premier League away games and won both times – Arsenal in March 2012 and Manchester City in February 2021.

Bournemouth will have to do better than their 1-0 defeat against Chelsea last time out, however.

Liverpool team news

Arne Slot revealed on Friday that goalkeeper Alisson will miss the Bournemouth game if he fails a late fitness check on a muscle injury.

“He has a slight issue with one of his muscles and we wonder if this game tomorrow is coming too early or not,” the Liverpool boss explained in his press conference. “I think he did not take it from the Milan game, it happened a bit before, but after the Milan game, he felt more and more. Now we have to wait to see if he is ready to be in goal tomorrow, or we have to wait a few more extra days.”

Alisson missed 10 league matches for Liverpool last season, through a variety of muscular issues and illness.

Liverpool’s back-up is Caoimhin Kelleher, who had two protracted runs in goal last season in December and from February to April. He kept two clean sheets in his 10 appearances and his ‘goals prevented’ figure — the post-shot xG, which measures the quality of finishing that Kelleher faced minus the number of goals Liverpool actually conceded — was -0.31, compared to Alission’s 2.39.

Curtis Jones may come back after a minor injury, while there’s uncertainty over Harvey Elliott’s involvement following his recent withdrawal from England under-21 duty due to an unspecified issue.

Bournemouth team news

David Brooks (shoulder) and Enes Unal (toe) have recently returned to training after long lay-offs. This leaves only Tyler Adams (back) on the long-term injury list. However, there has been no update on Philip Billing, who missed games due to a back issue.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth head-to-head

Bournemouth have lost on their last five visits to Anfield, with an aggregate score of 20-2.
