Leeds are still fighting for their Premier League lives under new boss Sam Allardyce who is the third man to have taken charge of Leeds this season, but it was an unsuccessful start to life at the Yorkshire club as they were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City, leaving them in the relegation zone with just three games left to play. The defeat extended Leeds’ winless run to six games in the Premier League since they beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 at Elland Road, and there is a tricky run of fixtures to end the campaign.

First up is, of course, Newcastle before Leeds travel to in-form West Ham in their penultimate match of the season. Then, on the final day, Leeds host Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road and they’ll be hoping minimal points are needed to secure their Premier League status – though they current sit two points from safety.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are pushing to return to the Champions League for the first time since 2003/04 but the boat was rocked ever so slightly at the weekend. The Magpies are currently third, three points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool with a game in hand on Jurgen Klopp’s men, though they recently saw a three-game winning run come to an end in defeat against Arsenal.

It’s an interesting final run-in for Newcastle too, who face Brighton and Leicester at home after their trip to Leeds, before closing to season away to Chelsea — who are only playing for pride. Eddie Howe’s side have picked up on the road recently winning three of their last four with the other a defeat at Villa Park.

Leeds vs Newcastle match stats

If relegation was not enough motivation, Sam Allardyce has a real grudge against Newcastle from the time he was hounded out as manager of the club. The problem is his side are just not good enough to deal with the quality of the current Magpies team. Backing the visitors to come out on top and the game to have under 3.5 goals looks the play.

Allardyce will (cliche alert) have his team well drilled and they might be able to hold out until half-time which forms the basis of our second bet. You could take the game to be level at the break and Newcastle to eventually come out on top. For us though the better option is to take the game to be goalless at the interval.
