How both teams go into Leeds vs Hull

Leeds suffered play-off final heartbreak in the Championship last season, missing out on an immediate return to the Premier League. But that defeat must be fully behind them, as there is no room for moping in the Championship. And after a slow start, Leeds are finally up and running.

The Whites opened the new season with a 3-3 draw against newly-promoted Portsmouth before being held to a stalemate against West Brom. Those draws came either side of an EFL Cup first-round exit as Leeds were beaten 3-0 by Middlesbrough. But the first win of the season did finally come, as Leeds beat Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Draws have also been the story of Hull’s season so far. Tim Walter is new to the job, replacing Liam Rosenior who was a surprise departure at the end of last season. So Walter had big shoes to fill in terms of fan love.

It’s been an interesting start to life at Hull for Walter. The German is still searching for his first win in charge, but there has only been one loss. That came to Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup first round. In the league, Hull have drawn with Bristol City, Plymouth and Millwall.

Leeds host Hull at Elland Road on Saturday 31st August, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

Leeds team news

Leeds go into this game with a fresh squad, and a new addition in Manor Solomon. The 25-year-old has signed on loan from Tottenham for the season and will be in contention to feature this weekend.

Farke has only made two changes to his starting XI in the Championship, and one was forced with Georginio Rutter leaving. Brenden Aaronson was favoured over Joel Piroe in the supporting forward role and may keep his spot after scoring last weekend.

Hull team news

With Oscar Estupinan set to seal a move away from Hull, Mason Burstow started up front for the Tigers against Millwall last weekend. It was the Englishman’s first start for the Tigers after signing permanently from Chelsea, and he may lead the line once more.

Hull have no injury concerns.

Leeds vs Hull head-to-head

Leeds are unbeaten in their past five games against Hull, including a 3-1 win in the most recent meeting at Elland Road in April. However, during that run Hull did knock Leeds out of the EFL Cup on penalties — a rare victory in this fixture in recent times.
