Having not gone past the quarter-final stage since winning the competition in 2015, Côte d’Ivoire will be hoping home advantage can help them as they look to become the first host nation to win the tournament since Egypt in 2006. A a 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to eventual runners-up Egypt in the first knockout round put an end to their tournament before it even began in 2021, so will want to put on a show in front of the home fans. The hosts/co-hosts of the Africa Cup of Nations have reached the knockout stages of the tournament in all bar one of the last 14 editions, so that will be the minimal expectations for Jean-Louis Gasset’s side.

Guinea-Bissau meanwhile, have struggled in the competition since first qualifying in 2017, finishing bottom of their group in each of their three previous campaigns. With three draws and six defeats from their last nine games in the competition and failing to score in their last seven matches at the Africa Cup of Nations, this will be a massive task if they are to get something out of this game.
