There are three games left for Ireland to play in their quest for Euro 2024 qualification, but their hopes are hanging by the thinnest of threads. Placed in a tough group alongside France, Netherlands, Greece and Gibraltar, Ireland were always going to be up against it, especially as they don’t have the Nations League play-offs to fall back on. With five games gone, Ireland have won just one match, losing the other four. They have beaten Gibraltar, but lost home and away against France as well as losing to Netherlands and Greece. If Ireland don’t win here, they will be out of contention.

Having qualified for back-to-back tournaments for the first time in their history in 2012 and 2016, ROI look set to miss out altogether again in 2024 after losing their play-off for Euro 2020 to Slovakia on penalties.

Greece, meanwhile, will feel pretty positive about their qualifying campaign. Despite sitting third in the group, Greece are level on points with Netherlands and do still have to play the Oranje. Even with Netherlands having a game in hand, Greece will hope they can cause a problem on the group, especially as they only lost to France by one goal. Their only other defeat came against Netherlands, with a win over Ireland and two against Gibraltar. Greece also have the play-offs as a second chance, having topped their Nations League group.

Having failed to qualify for each of the last two tournaments, the surprise Euro 2004 winners have already picked up more points after five games (9) than they did in the whole of Euro 2020 qualifying (6), winning three and losing two of their opening five matches. A win is a must here in their final away game of the campaign, as their final two fixtures see France and the Netherlands head to Greece.

Ireland vs Greece match tip

Highest scoring half: 1st @ 11/5 with Midnite

Greece’s games in Euro 2024 qualifying so far have seen slightly more action before half time than after the break. Of the 15 goals scored in Greece’s games during Euro 2024 qualifying, nine have come in the opening 45 minutes. Things are a lot closer in Ireland’s matches, with a few more goals actually coming in the second half at seven to five.

Ireland vs Greece Bet-Builder tip

Georgios Masouras to score anytime > BTTS > A goal in both halves @ 15/2 with Sky Bet

Georgios Masouras has been the main goalscoring threat for Greece in Euro 2024 qualifying, netting four goals so far, the joint-most in Group B alongside Kylian Mbappe. However, Greece haven’t been great at keeping the ball out of their own net, conceding in all three matches not against Gibraltar. And you can expect action in both halves, with Greece scoring in the first and second half in three of their five matches.

Callum Robinson, Mikey Johnston, Liam Scales, Mark Sykes Caoimhin Kelleher. John Egan, Callum O’Dowda, George Baldock

John Egan, George Baldock and Callum O’Dowda all miss out for Ireland through injury, as does Caoimhin Kelleher. However, Liam Scales and Mark Sykes have earned recalls, with the former still looking for his first cap. Callum Robinson and Mikey Johnston are also back following injury.

Brighton forward Evan Ferguson, who has one goal and one assist in his three Euro 2024 qualifying matches so far, should start up front after recovering from his recent injury. However after failing to score in each of his last five appearances since his hat-trick against Newcastle, he will be desperate to find the back of the net once more.
