Ipswich’s return to the Premier League isn’t going exactly as they would have hoped. The Tractor Boys are one of six teams still awaiting their first victory in this season’s Premier League. It was a baptism of fire in their opening two games, as Ipswich lost to Liverpool and Manchester City.

There has been a slight improvement since then, though. Ipswich are unbeaten in their past three Premier League matches, with all finishing level. The Tractor Boys have drawn against Fulham, Brighton and Southampton, snatching a point against the latter last time out thanks to an injury-time equaliser.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, have started from where they left off last season. Some will have been following Villa closely this season to see if they struggled as Newcastle United did after securing Champions League football. But it’s going well so far.

Unai Emery’s men have won four of their five Premier League matches, only losing 2-0 to Arsenal. Since that defeat, the Villans have strung together a run of three wins, beating Leicester City, Everton and Wolves. Villa have also beaten Young Boys 3-0 and Wycome 2-1 in the Champions League and EFL Cup, respectively.

Ipswich host Aston Villa at Portman Road on Sunday 29th September at 2pm.

Ipswich team news

Ipswich have been boosted by the returns to fitness for both Kalvin Phillips and Nathan Broadhead. Harry Clarke is a doubt while Janoi Donacien is definitely out.

Aston Villa team news

Lucas Digne has been passed fit and will be available here. However, this game looks to be too soon for Matty Cash.

Tyrone Mings, Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara will remain out until next month. John McGinn is also expected to be out for a few weeks with a hamstring injury.

Ipswich vs Aston Villa head-to-head

Aston Villa are unbeaten in their past four games against Ipswich. However, they all came in the Championship between 2017 and 2019. This is the first top-flight meeting between these two sides since March 2002.
