Iceland vs Wales prediction, stats, tips & team news

Craig Bellamy will be hoping to continue his unbeaten start as Wales manager when they face Iceland in their Uefa Nations League tie on 11th October.

The Dragons have taken four points from their opening two games in Uefa Nations League B. Iceland, meanwhile, have three points from two matches.

Johan Gudmundsson Over 0.5 Fouls (10/11 with SBK)

Johann Gudmundsson swapped Burnley for Saudi Arabia at the start of the season, and the midfielder is set to captain his national side on Friday as he makes his 96th cap. Gudmundsson has committed at least one foul in four of his five internationals, with totals of 2.1,1,0,4.

He gave away two against Montenegro and one against Turkey in the most recent international break, and with Sky Bet having this same selection priced at just 3/10, the 10/11 with SBK looks an excellent price.

Brennan Johnson to Score (16/5 with SBK)

Brennan Johnson has been a revelation at Spurs this season and is enjoying a rich vein of form. The Welshman has scored in all of his last six appearances for his club side, most recently finding the net in Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton on Sunday. Confidence is high for Johnson at the moment, and he looks a very backable price to take his purple patch into the international break and find the net for Craig Bellamy’s side.

It’s not yet been a month since the last international break, but the Uefa Nations League is back for its next two rounds of fixtures. The first sees Iceland and Wales both hoping to push on in their quest for promotion to League A.

The September international break saw the start of the Craig Bellamy era at Wales, and it could hardly have gone better. There was a tough matchup in his first game against Turkey, who are very unpredictable but made it to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.

That game finished goalless, with Turkey being reduced to 10 men just after the hour mark. Wales had a whopping 15 shots but only hit the target once, failing to capitalise. They made up for it in their next game, though, scoring twice inside the opening three minutes as part of a 2-1 win over Montenegro.

In their first game, Iceland beat Montenegro 2-0 thanks to a goal in either half. This is their second year in League B following relegation in 2020-21, and they drew all four matches in 2022-23. In fact, their win over Montenegro was Iceland’s first in the Uefa Nations League, having lost all 10 of their matches in League A. But the streak stopped at one, with Montenegro beaten by Turkey last time out.

Iceland host Wales at Laugardalsvollur in Reykjavik on Friday 11th October at 7:45pm.

Iceland team news

Iceland will look to bring a strong squad for this upcoming international break. Albert Gudmundsson recently returned from injury and has scored twice for Fiorentina, so could be in line for a recall.

Wales team news

Connor Roberts suffered an injury in the September international break and hasn’t featured for Burnley since. He has recently returned to training, so may be in Bellamy’s thoughts if he does get to full fitness.

Iceland vs Wales head-to-head

This isn’t an international fixture we see too often. Wales last faced Iceland in 2014, winning 3-1 in a friendly thanks to goals from James Collins, Sam Vokes and Gareth Bale. The Dragons have won their past four games against Iceland — though only two have come this century.
