How both teams go into Greece vs Scotland
There is a growing feeling that Greece are on their way back up. The Euro 2004 winners are enjoying an excellent run of form built on a strong defensive base but, more than that, there is a host of young players rising through the ranks, including teenagers Kostas Karetsas and Christos Mouzakitis, who have both been called into this squad. England, Germany, Netherlands and France are the only nations to beat Greece since the start of 2023.
As for Scotland, they saved their Nations League skins with a 0-0 draw against Portugal and wins over Croatia (1-0) and Poland (2-1) in their final three matches after failing to take a single point from their first three games. That means the Tartan Army will contend a playoff to try and stay in League A, with Poland instead relegated straight to League B. Prior to this three-game unbeaten run, Scotland had lost four in a row and had only beaten Gibraltar in a 15-game streak.
Greece team news
Goalscoring midfielder Tasos Bakasetas misses out on this squad through injury, but Greece have still named a highly talented squad packed with players from the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and beyond.
Scotland team news
Hearts youngster James Wilson and Sturm Graz defender Max Johnston have been called up as uncapped players for Scotland, whose squad also includes Premier League stars Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney and John McGinn. Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson is also set for his first cap since March 2024.
Greece vs Scotland head-to-head
Both sides have a 1-0 win to their name from the two previous meetings between these nations, with Ally McCoist scoring the winner for Scotland in a Euro 96 qualifier way back in August 1995. These two nations haven’t clashed since.
