Germany vs Hungary Nations Uefa League A prediction and stats: Die Mannschaft begin post-Euro 2024 campaign
Germany will be hoping to build on a good showing at Euro 2024 when they host Hungary in the Uefa Nations League A.
Julian Nagelsmann restored pride to the nation as Die Mannschaft made it to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024. Hungary, meanwhile, were disappointing in their group stage exit.
Three predictions for Germany vs Hungary
Germany 2-0 Hungary (11/2 with Betfred)
Germany are unbeaten in seven of their past eight matches at home, including five games at Euro 2024. Even their quarter-final exit to Spain came after extra-time, with the match initially finishing as a draw. This run included a 2-0 win over Hungary.
Niclas Fullkrug to score anytime (5/4 with BoyleSports)
Niclas Fullkrug will be hoping to lead the line for Germany, or at least make an impact off the bench. The new West Ham striker has scored in six of his last 12 appearances for Germany.
Under 2.5 goals (7/5 with Star Sports)
In the 2022/23 Uefa Nations League campaign, Germany weren’t the most exciting team to watch. Four of their six matches saw two or fewer goals scored, including a 1-0 defeat to Hungary.

How both teams go into Germany vs Hungary
When Julian Nagelsmann took the reins of Germany, things weren’t looking good. Many were predicting Die Mannschaft to struggle at their home tournament due to poor form. However, Nagelsmann has turned things around.
Germany were one of the most impressive teams at Euro 2024, alongside eventual winners Spain. Die Mannschaft won their group ahead of Switzerland and brushed Denmark aside in the last 16. But then they came up against Spain in the quarter-finals, ultimately losing after extra time.
Hungary, meanwhile, were some people’s dark horses going into Euro 2024. They had had an impressive Uefa Nations League campaign last time out, including a 1-0 win over Germany in Leipzig — as well as that 4-0 thrashing of England at Molineux.
But Germany got their revenge on Hungary in the group stage, alongside a 3-1 defeat to Switzerland. Hungary did beat Scotland 1-0 in their final game, but it was not enough to progress to the knockout stages.
Germany host Hungary on Saturday, 7th September, at 7:45pm (UK time) at Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf.
Germany team news
Manuel Neuer, Ilkay Gundogan, Toni Kroos and Thomas Müller have all retired from international duty. Marc-Andre ter Stegen will replace Neuer as Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper, while Aleksandar Pavlovic has been added to a younger squad.
Of course, the likes of Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz and Florian Wirtz are all involved, but there is still no Serge Gnabry.
Hungary team news
Six of Hungary’s squad currently ply their trade in Germany, including goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi and RB Leipzig teammate Willi Orban. Adam Lang, Attila Fiola and Attila Szalai are among those to drop out from the Euro 2024 squad.
Germany vs Hungary head-to-head
This has been a historically even fixture, with Germany just about edging the results at 14 wins to 12, with 12 draws. They have won just one of the four meetings this decade, but that did come in the Euro 2024 group stage.
