*Odds correct as of 09:30 on September 6

There have been four matchweeks in Group A of Euro 2024 qualifying and going into round five, Georgia sit ahead of Spain. However, that is of course because Spain have played just two games, taking a pause from qualifying to win the UEFA Nations League in June. But Spain still haven’t had it all their way. La Roja opened the group with a 3-0 win at home to Norway but they were then shocked by Scotland, losing 2-0 in Glasgow. So, Spain currently sit fourth in the group, one point outside the qualification spots albeit with as many as two games in hand on the teams above them.

Currently occupying that final qualification spot is Georgia, who have taken four points from their opening three games. While that spot is unlikely to be safe, only above Norway on goal difference, Georgia do know they have a play-off place secured due to their Nations League finish. With an odd number of teams in Group A, Georgia sat out of the first matchweek and then opened their campaign with a draw against Norway. In June, there was a 2-1 win over Cyprus but Georgia tasted defeat to the perfect Scotland, ending their own unbeaten start.

Highest scoring half: 2nd @ 1/1 with Paddy Power

Georgia may have conceded three of their four goals in Euro 2024 qualifying in the first half, but they have also scored twice after half-time. Spain, meanwhile, have netted three of their four goals in the second half of matches, including Joselu’s late brace in their win over Norway.

Georgia vs Spain Bet-Builder tip

Alvaro Morata to score anytime, Spain to win and Over 2.5 goals

Spain will be hoping to have a better time in front of goal than they did against Scotland and Alvaro Morata will be looking to extend his La Roja record. Morata is in the top five for goalscorers in Spain’s history, netting 30 in 64 matches, and he has three in three for Atletico Madrid this season. Spain will also be looking to extend their winning record against Georgia with four wins in the four competitive meetings so far.

Georgia vs Spain team news

Giorgi Mamardashvili plays his club football in Spain for Valencia so will be hoping to use some of that experience to Georgia’s benefit on Friday. There is also the star of the show Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is also the top scorer in the squad on 10 goals in 22 appearances.

There are no real surprises in Spain’s squad but there has been a first call-up for Barcelona’s latest young superstar Lamine Yamal, aged just 16. One worry may be goals though as past Morata’s 30, the next highest scorer in the squad is Dani Olmo on six.
