Georgia vs Czech Republic Euro 2024 predictions & team news: Mikautadze to continue red-hot form?

Georgia vs Czech Republic Euro 2024 predictions: A crucial battle for third?

Both Georgia and the Czech Republic will be looking to up their chances of qualifying for the last 16 of Euro 2024 when they face off on Saturday afternoon.

Georgia vs Czech Republic latest prediction

As the second round of Euro 2024 group stage fixtures rolls on, we’re starting to find out which teams can and cannot qualify for the last 16. For Georgia and the Czech Republic, this game is essentially make or break.

Georgia are making their main tournament debut at Euro 2024 and put on a show in their first game against Turkey. Although they wound up on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline, Georgia excied viewers and Georges Mikautadze scored a historic first-ever goal to equalise. They eventually fell to an Arda Guler wonder strike and a late blow from Kerem Akturkoglu when everyone including the goalkeeper had pushed up for a corner.

The Czech Republic also faced late heartbreak in their opener. Taking one on of the favourites, Portugal, they were just minutes away from a big result. Lukas Provod gave them the lead after the hour mark, though were soon pegged back through a Robin Hranac own goal. Just as they looked set to secure a big point, Francisco Conceicao came off the bench to score within 111 seconds, winning the game for Portugal.

It means both of these sides have to get at least a point to keep their hopes of a last 16 spot alive. Defeat for either would surely put them on the brink of elimination.

Georgia take on the Czech Republic on 22nd June at Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.

Mikautadze was the man to score the historic goal for Georgia against Turkey and we shouldn’t have been surprised. Although Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gets a lot of the attention when it comes to the Georgian national team, Mikautadze is the man for the goals. The Metz striker has scored 10 goals in his 16 starts for Georgia, and has scored in successive starts for the first time since June 2023.

Mikautadze also ended the league season in world-class goalscoring form, with eight goals in his last seven games. Only Alexander Sorloth (Villarreal) and Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace) scored more across that period, both managing nine.

Georgia latest team news

Kvaratskhelia is the star man for Georgia and while he plays on the wing for Napoli, he is one of the central outlets for the national team. This wasn’t always the case, with the switch coming more recently, but it continued against Turkey with Kvaratskhelia partnering Mikautadze up front.

They lead a team that usually set up in a 3-5-2, with Giorgi Chakvetadze providing some creativity from the midfield three. It’s hard to see Willy Sagnol making changes to his team that fought well against Turkey and were only really beaten by wondergoals and a late strike.

Czech Republic latest team news

There were no real surprises in Czech Republic’s XI to face Portugal, and it’s hard to see many — if any — changes being made given the performance. So Patrik Schick should lead the line alongside Jan Kuchta, though Adam Hlozek will hope to get some game time having been an unused substitute against Portugal. Tomas Soucek will sit in front of the defence, with Pavel Sulc and Lukas Provod the preferred central midfield partnership.
