Georgia vs Portugal Euro 2024 Prediction: Seleção das Quinas to finish the job?

Georgia vs Portugal Latest Prediction

As the final match these two will play in the group stages, this could hold huge consequences for their Euro 2024 hopes.

Georgia, of course, enter the tournament as minnows and if they have anything on the board by this stage, it will be seen as a great achievement. However, their players will certainly want to prove they belong here, so the hope will be that they’ve already stunned Turkey and the Czech Republic by this stage to give them a shot at qualification.

As for 2016 champions Portugal, anything less than six points by this stage would be seen as a massive disappointment, but if Roberto Martinez’s side do deliver that, he will be able to use this match to rest a few key players and give valuable minutes to other squad members who may be needed deeper into the tournament.

Georgia Latest Team News

The star man for Georgia will be Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but while the 23-year-old plays on the wing for Napoli, he is one of the central outlets for the national team. This wasn’t always the case, with the switch coming in the past few matches, but it’s one that has brought a lot of success. In his final three qualifying games, as a striker, Kvaratskhelia scored four goals including a brace in a 2-2 draw with Scotland.

That switch came as Georgia manager Willy Sagnol altered the formation to a front two, and it would be weird for the Frenchman to do anything different as that is what got him to the Euros. It has Georges Mikautadze up front alongside Kvaratskhelia, with the pair combining well as a partnership so far. Sitting just behind them will likely be Giorgi Chakvetadze.

Between the sticks, Giorgi Mamardashvili is reliable and may need to bail out the defence on occasion.

Portugal Latest Team News

Few sides can boast the level of quality and pedigree Portugal are bringing to Euro 2024. A potential front three of Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael Leao and Bernardo Silva is terrifying enough, not least when it’s supplied by the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Vitinha. Ruben Dias and Goncalo Inacio provide a defensive platform for a side that feels like it has incredible balance. Can Martinez get the tactics right?

Georgia vs Portugal Head to Head

These two nations have only ever met on one previous occasion, with Portugal beating Georgia 2-0 in a friendly back in May 2008. Cristiano Ronaldo and 41-year-old Pepe still survive from that match in a Portuguese side that also featured the likes of Deco, Ricardo Carvalho, Nuno Gomes and Nani.
