Galatasaray vs Young Boys prediction: Who will book their place in the revamped Champions League?

It’s still all to play for when Galatasaray host Young Boys in the second leg of their Champions League qualifying play-off.

Three predictions for Galatasaray vs Young Boys

Galatasaray 2-1 Young Boys (8/1 with BetGoodwin)

Galatasaray boast a near-perfect home record against Swiss opposition in European competition. The Turkish side have won seven of their eight matches, with one draw. However, their last home game against Swiss opposition came in the Uefa Cup in 2008. Galatasaray have also won 11 of their 14 previous Champions League home qualifiers.

Michy Batshuayi to score anytime (21/20 with Bet365)

Michy Batshuayi has started the 2024/25 season in final form. Despite not starting a single game, the Belgian has scored three goals in four matches. This includes a brace against Young Boys in the first leg.

Over 0.5 Young Boys goals in the first half (13/8 with BoyleSports)

There have been 24 goals in Young Boys’ last six games across all competitions. Young Boys have scored nine goals during that time, with five of those coming in the first half.

How both teams go into Galatasaray vs Young Boys

The hosts go into this games on the back foot, having lost the first leg 3-2 last week. Galatasaray trailed by two goals at half time before Michy Batshuayi struck twice to bring them level. However, Filip Ugrinic fired home a late penalty to give Young Boys this slender advantage.

Galatasaray have had a week to prepare for this game, given the weekend off from Turkish Super Lig duties. The focus has been solely on reaching the Champions League proper for the second season running.

Last season they came through the qualifying play-offs, beating Molde home and away, eventually finishing third in their group.

The equation is simple for Young Boys – avoid defeat and a place in the inaugural league phase is theirs. The 17-time Swiss champions are bidding for back-to-back Champions League group/league phase participation.

Despite Galatasaray’s formidable home record at this stage, Young Boys boast some pedigree of their own. They’re unbeaten in their three games against Turkish opposition, winning two. That includes a win on their sole visit to Turkey in 2010 when they beat Fenerbahçe.

However, away wins in this competition are a rarity. The Swiss side have only ever won three Champions League away games, with six draws and 15 defeats.

Galatasaray host Young Boys at Rams Park on Tuesday at 8pm (UK time).

Galatasaray latest team news

Abdülkerim Bardakcı was sent off in the first leg so is banned for this game. Kaan Ayhan returns from suspension so can replace Bardakcı in defence.

Goalkeeper Fernando Muslera also came off due to injury in the first leg. Gunay Guvenc came on to replace him and may need to step in from the start.

Davinson Sanchez is injured, while Michy Batshuayi is expected to start on the bench again.

Young Boys latest team news

Facinet Conte and Saidy Janko are unavailable, but Kastriot Imeri has recovered from an ankle injury.

Young Boys also saw their goalkeeper injured last week with David Von Ballmoos having to come off. He was replaced at Marcel Keller, who may have to stand in again.
